Fortnite’s newest and most fun form of transport is the Loot Shark, but riding one isn’t as simple as grabbing its fin and letting the man-eating fish do the rest of the work.

Fortnite Season 3 is almost a week old at this point. Chances are a lot of hardened players will have already become accustomed to what is effectively a brand new map. Yes, in reality, it is Season 2’s map with a lot more water, but so much water has been dumped on the island by the evil Midas that it has altered the way in which Fortnite is played.

While traveling on foot or via some sort of land vehicle will have been the preferred method of movement before now, there’s so much water that players have been forced to take to the waves. Boats have made the jump from Season 2 to Season 3, but Epic has also added a far more fun and exciting mode of aquatic transport.

That mode of transport is Loot Sharks. Players got a first glimpse at Fortnite’s Loot Sharks when Midas raised his wall of water, with sharks swimming inside of it. Now those sharks can be found swimming around the island, and players can fish for them. Should they catch a shark, using the same Fishing Rods that have been in the game for a while, the Loot Shark will be yours to control.

Similar to driving a boat, players can steer the shark and even use its turbo boost to help escape from enemies. It doesn’t have missiles as a boat does, but players can use weapons while riding the Loot Shark’s back and also jump over obstacles. The only downfall is the animal turned vehicle takes up an inventory slot.

Finding a Loot Shark to catch shouldn’t be too difficult, although we are still yet to see one in Team Rumble. The best places to look are around The Fortilla and Sweaty Sands, and players will be able to see their iconic dorsal fins sticking out of the surface of the water. They will rarely venture very far from the shore. Good as that makes them easier to catch, but bad because Loot Sharks can bite back. They may even leap out of the water to get to a player.
