Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5 has arrived, bringing a host of new content to Epic’s genre-defining Battle Royale. The 15th season of Fortnite revolves around both The Zero Point and bounty hunters, using the slogan “Join the Hunt.”
One of these hunters is the Mandalorian, the star of Disney Plus’ series of the same name. As arguably the most famous bounty hunter of 2020, Mando was a sure pick for Fortnite’s latest season. The intergalactic hunter has crashed on the Battle Island, and serves as a boss in Season 5. Players who manage to defeat him will earn not only his Jetpack, but also his signature Amban Sniper Rifle. The Amban a highly effective rifle in its own right, but it also comes with a very surprising trick.
An Outer-Rim Classic
The Amban Sniper Rifle is a long-range, single-shot Mythic weapon in Fortnite. It deals an impressive 110 damage, as well as having an alternate melee attack. When scoped in, the rifle provides thermal-vision like the Thermal-scoped Assault Rifle, but with a much longer range than even most Sniper Rifle scopes.
However, the rifle’s true secret lies in its special melee ability. Using the ability, a thrusting stab, will cause the character to jump forward a few feet. The effect is similar to the crystals which can be found dotted around Fortnite’s Zero Point, though it isn’t quite as powerful. While this jump isn’t all that notable on it’s own, it interacts in a very interesting way with Fortnite’s building system.
Force Trickery
Getting into box fights is a pretty regular occurrence for most Fortnite players. The high skill cap needed to build, edit, destroy, and fight all at the same time can often separate the great players from the mediocre. The Amban Sniper Rifle, despite being a long range weapon, can offer a surprising advantage in these close-quarters battles.
When using the Amban’s melee mode, it’s possible to break right through a weakened wall, and “teleport” to the other side of the box all in one go. In the frenetic world of Fortnite’s box fighting, this unexpected jump forward can be all a player needs to get the drop on their unsuspecting opponent. To pull this clever Fortnite trick off, all players need to do is use the Amban’s melee mode on a low health wall, ramp, or floor.
Fortnite is free-to-play for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
