Whirlpools are a terrific way to escape gunfire or, even worse, The Storm at a moment’s notice. Here’s how to use one of Fortnite’s newest features.
Season 3 of Fortnite is in full swing at this point as players prepare to enter week six. On paper, that means we are more than halfway through the season. In reality, and if this season is anything like the previous two, the end of the season will be pushed back a month or more. As it stands, it is scheduled to come to an end on August 27, 2020.
By that point, it seems as if all of the water brought about by the event at the start of the season will have subsided. The water level drops with each passing week. However, some of the challenges in place have revealed that the water won’t disappear completely.
One of the earlier challenges this season asked players to use a Whirlpool. For players focused on landing, harvesting, and eliminating, that challenge might remain incomplete. The good news for those people is it might well be one of the easier challenges added so far this season. The only real problem is tracking one down, and using it before a player or The Storm makes things a little more tricky than they need to be.
Once a player finds a Whirlpool, all they need to do is swim into the center of it. The swirling water will briefly spin the player around and then fire them up into the sky. From there, players can reactivate their glider and land wherever they so choose, within reason. If the challenge hasn’t been completed, doing that will reward players with a cool 35,000 XP, perhaps the easiest XP anyone will come across this season.
Players who have completed the challenge shouldn’t ignore Whirlpools. With more water to traverse then ever, anything that will allow for a quick getaway should be considered. Boats are terrific, and Crash Pads are okay, but if The Storm is closing in and you find yourself swimming for your life, chances are diving into a Whirlpool will save you from a self-elimination.
