As many Fortnite Battle Royale fans would likely attest, Epic Games has continually brought a bevy of new content to the free-to-play shooter in order to keep players engaged, with one of the most recent additions being its Season 7 Week 8 challenges. Now, though, it looks like the developer is planning something a little bit unconventional this time around, with a datamine of the title’s Update 7.30 indicating that a live in-game concert featuring DJ Marshmello will be taking place this weekend.
According to the leaked assets, the DJ Marshmello concert in question will take place in Fortnite’s Pleasant Park on February 2, 2019 at 2:00 PM ET, and will supposedly be a Limited-Time Mode (LTM) that has specific event challenges, too. What’s more is that Epic is apparently going to introduce a cosmetic bundle for the LTM event which is set to include a skin, pickaxe, and spray inspired by the likeness of DJ Marshmello. Additionally, it appears as if there will be a couple of fresh emotes on-hand as well, which could work in-tandem with the aforementioned event challenges.
For those who haven’t been keeping up with the development cycles of Fortnite Battle Royale, this won’t be the first instance of Epic Games bringing an actual live event to the title, as the developer recently made sweeping wintry changes to the map after a one-time-only occurrence took place. That said, though, the Marshmello concert could be Epic’s most ambitious live content to date, for it has the potential to not only introduce the DJ’s music to players who may not be aware of him, but also bring fans of the artist to check out the game with the special event.
All things considered, it will be interesting to see just how the DJ Marshmello concert plays out in real time, exactly what kind of activities it will incorporate into Fortnite Battle Royale, and how many players it will draw in. Netflix declared the game to be a bigger competitor than HBO, so there’s a good chance that the video streaming service could see a significant drop in active users this weekend due to the Fortnite concert.
Fortnite is available now in early access for Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
