A new Fortnite datamine could imply a major event is going to happen soon in the battle royale. Since Chapter 2 Season 2 began, players have been caught up in the ongoing battle between the forces of Ghost and Shadow, and a bigger confrontation could be looming. The latest Fortnite datamine shows one map location where that confrontation could occur — the Ghost’s very own headquarters, The Agency.

The latest leak, via Twitter user iFireMonkey, shows changes coming to The Agency. Instead of the usual Ghost logos and associated imagery, it has all been replaced by Shadow assets. These include the logo on the front of the base, a Shadow flag, Shadow banners on the inside of the building, and the removal of the Ghost statue.

Many will attribute the change to the “vote” regarding Midas’ in-game skin. For those unfamiliar, Fortnite players have been able to choose either a Ghost or Shadow version of several skins. Fortnite’s map has changed over the season, with many attributing the changes to how the “vote” goes for each skin. So if more people picked Shadow Midas, then perhaps The Agency will be taken over by Shadow. However, these Shadow assets were added to the game before players had even begun to choose their Midas skin.

There are two prevailing theories going around regarding The Agency change. One, that The Agency was either inevitably going to change or that the Midas skin is forcing a change. In other words, The Agency is going to be taken over by Shadow. Ghosts are losing for one reason or another.

The second theory is that Epic is seeding the idea that Shadow is going to take over The Agency as a red herring. That there are big plans for the end of Chapter 2 Season 2 and keeping fans focused on something small like The Agency being taken over is a great distraction. Epic’s tried to trick dataminers before, but this does seem like a reach. When a decent amount of work has to be put into a change, it’s much less likely to be a trick.

Fortnite fans likely won’t have to wait long to find out what Epic Games’ plans are. Whatever Epic’s intended changes are, they’ll likely arrive in patch 12.60, which was delayed this past week. That means, if all goes to plan, they’ll arrive this week instead. Delays could happen, or the change could be postponed, but it’s just a matter of time at this point — the Ghost vs. Shadow war is going to come to a conclusion one way or another.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
