Fortnite Season 3 is still in its early days, but fans appear to have taken to the new changes quite well, with the majority of the map now submerged in water. However, it’s unlikely that this will be the new normal for the battle royale, and new leaks do seem to confirm that things will slowly go back to how they were.

According to leaker Lucas7Yoshi, who has regularly and reliably leaked information about Fortnite before, the water will eventually recede to a point where the map will resemble how it did originally. There will still be enough water for swimming, fishing, and riding sharks, though.

This isn’t all that surprising as Season 3 is meant to be adding cars at some point down the line, which can’t really be done if most of the map is covered in water.

However, it’s been noted that the receding water levels could reveal some entirely new areas for players to check out. In the northwest corner of the map, there appears to be a new Point of Interest.

Another Fortnite leaker, FortTory, has delved into the game’s files and discovered that this area is referred to as The Ruins, with references to monuments and temples, but no clear look at the area itself.

Could this already be a hint towards what Season 4 will be all about? At this point, we can only speculate and, besides, it’s always possible that plans have changed or will change and Epic Games won’t include this area at all.

We also have no idea when the water levels will start to drop anyway. It’s arguably too soon for that to happen as Season 3 is still new, but after how irritable players got over how long Season 2 was, with Season 3’s starting date being hit with multiple delays, Epic Games hopefully won’t let the current season drag out for too long.

Meanwhile, latecomers to the game may be struggling with some of the new challenges, such as accessing the vaults. Those who need a helping hand can check out this guide for one of these vaults, namely the one at The Fortilla.

Fortnite is available on Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
