Fortnite has managed to become a prominent name in the increasingly saturated battle royale genre through its building mechanics, events, and crossover items.  Despite the success of the title, the game has been the focus of some criticism in recent weeks. The team behind Fortnite, Epic Games, is now revealing that it has plenty of ways to keep the game fresh and if a leak is to be believed, then there will be a game-changing mechanic introduced soon.

While many have battled to become the most popular battle royale game, few games can boast the player count and records of Fortnite. With weekly events and crossover items, there is plenty for players to explore and discover. Yet, the possibility of water exploration may well add even more longevity to a game that has been attracting players for three years.

The leaked files were found by data miners and they show underwater swimming animations. While players have been able to swim for a while on Fortnite, the ability to dive may add new collectibles and terrains to explore. On top of this, it may add another element to battle royale if a player can hide underwater. It will be interesting to see if this animation is implemented and if it is how the game will incorporate it with its other elements. Many will hope that this animation is indicative of new exciting features coming to the game.

The ongoing Travis Scott “Astronomical” tour not only brought in a lot of players and an impressive show but it has also led to new items and revamped areas. With these constant updates in mind, an event around deep-diving does not seem beyond the realms of possibility. Of course, all leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt, as they don’t always turn up in the game and the developer may decide to pursue a different direction. With that said, players seem pretty excited about the possibility of diving in the game.

Fortnite has found itself under fire for changing the game too much, yet bringing in new mechanics alongside old favorites may bring back fans who have moved on from the title. It will be interesting to see if these leaks come to fruition and the impact it has on the players of Fortnite. Either way, it seems that Fortnite has plenty of ideas of how they can keep players engaged.

Fortnite is out now for iOS, Android, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
