It seems as though Fortnite may be getting a skin based on the DC Comics villain Black Manta in a future update. This is the prevailing theory among fans after seeing the outline of a leaked skin for the upcoming Chapter 2 Season 3.

While it’s entirely possible that the new Fortnite skin is some other character entirely, there is no denying that the outline does resemble Black Manta, particularly the shape of his helmet. While it may seem random for Fortnite to have a Black Manta skin in the game, there is actually another reason to believe why it may be happening.

The various leaks and rumors surrounding Fortnite Season 3 suggest that it will see the entire battle royale map flooded. Furthermore, leakers have suggested that this will coincide with an Aquaman crossover of some kind, complete with an Aquaman skin. It’s possible that this will mimic the Deadpool crossover that dominated Fortnite this past season, or it may be a bit more limited in scope. In any case, if the Aquaman leaks are correct, then it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see his archnemesis Black Manta added to the battle royale game as well.

If Aquaman and Black Manta are coming to Fortnite as rumored, it wouldn’t be the first time the popular battle royale game has crossed over with DC Comics. In the past, Fortnite had a rather substantial crossover with Batman that added a variety of Batman-themed cosmetic items to the game and also transformed a portion of the battle royale map into Gotham City. Considering this, perhaps Aquaman’s city of Atlantis will be featured in the new Fortnite season, especially if the map is flooded and the game has more underwater content as has been rumored.

While Fortnite has had crossover events with DC Comics characters, there’s no denying that it has had more substantial crossovers with Marvel. This has included multiple limited-time events, like one that allowed players to transform into Thanos and wield the Infinity Gauntlet in-game.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 is expected to come to an end on Saturday, June 6 at 11:00am PT, and the start of Season 3 shouldn’t be far behind. Considering this, Fortnite fans shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to find out if there’s any truth to these Aquaman rumors or not.

Fortnite is out now for iOS, Android, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are also in development.
