When the latest SMG was introduced into Fortnite and dubbed the Compact SMG P90, many players were understandably excited to see the new gun perform in the battle royale game. However, players quickly came to the consensus that the new SMG was OP and began to ask Epic Games for a nerf, with even popular Fortnite streamer Ninja getting on this bandwagon.

Of course, with the popularity of the game at a high and the number of people asking for it, Epic issued a nerf for SMGs, including the Compact SMG, with its latest hotfix. While it remains to be seen how this exactly affects the SMGs in Fortnite’s metagame, the changes made to the P90 are likely to be well-received. Check out the changes below:

  • SMG and Compact SMG accuracy bonus reduced from 35% to 15%. SMG damage reduced from 19/20/21 to 17/18/19. Compact SMG damage reduced from 23/24 to 21/22. SMG fire rate reduced from 13 to 12. Compact SMG fire rate reduced from 11 to 10. SMG, Compact SMG, and Silenced SMG damage falloff. Range reduced from 2400/3500/5000 to 2000/3000/4000. Percentage reduced from 100/80/65% to 100/70/40%. Rare SMG and Compact SMGs drop rates slightly reduced.

It’s also worth mentioning that the above damage falloff values affect environmental damage too, so SMGs aren’t as useful in destroying structures at long distances. This decision should also increase the usefulness of SMGs as CQC weapons, instead of an easy replacement for a rifle. Check out the Compact SMG before the nerf below:

Epic ends its post with a promise to monitor the performance of the SMGs moving forward, and hopefully, finding a good medium for the weapons. However, it’s worth mentioning the Compact SMG might not be the most controversial weapon soon, as a recent datamine has apparently revealed a legendary Sniper Rifle capable of penetrating surfaces easily.

Nevertheless, until this Sniper Rifle is added to the game, it remains to be seen how the weapon stacks in comparison to the recent SMG debacle. In the meantime, players can keep themselves busy by finding all of the clay pigeon locations.
