Since the introduction of its battle royale mode, Fortnite has seen plenty of petitions drawn up about it. While some of the petitions call for the game to be banned, others are a bit more lighthearted, like the one made by Kody Keddie that asks Epic Games to add a strange - but thoughtful - feature to the battle bus.
The battle bus, for those who don’t play Fortnite, is the vehicle that players start every match in. The bus floats over the world map, and players are able to choose when they jump out and where they land. Presumably, someone is at the wheel of the battle bus, and Kody Keddie would like Epic to add a feature that will allow players to thank the bus driver before they jump out.
Keddie’s tongue-in-cheek explanation starts with, “Since I was just a boy I have always loved jumping out of the battle bus, but all this time I have felt something was missing.” Keddie goes on to say that the battle bus driver provides a “great service” to players, and that it’s time players are given the ability to “truly appreciate” their efforts.
Whoever is driving the battle bus is certainly keeping themselves busy. As it stands, Fortnite is one of the most popular video games in the world, if not the most popular game in the world. It has become a pop culture phenomenon and has been endorsed by a number of celebrities, which has in turn helped Epic Games rake in serious cash. For example, this past March, Fortnite generated an astonishing $223 million in revenue.
The game is played by millions of people, and since launch, countless battle royale matches have been played. And every single one of those battle royale matches have started out with the players jumping out of the battle bus. Considering this, maybe it is time Epic gives more recognition to the battle bus driver, whether that be through the ability to say “thank you” or giving the driver a personality and character model.
Whether or not Epic Games actually responds to this petition (which has over 7,000 signatures at the time of this writing) remains to be seen. One thing is for certain, though, and that is the battle bus driver will have plenty of work to do in the future.
Fortnite is out now in early access for iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
