The guided missile has only been back in Fortnite for a few days and already players are finding clever ways to take advantage of the explosive weapon. But while most of the impressive guided missile plays feature a player riding the rocket, one player has shown another clever way to use the item.
Reddit user ChekeCur01 posted a video to the Fortnite subreddit showing how the guided missile can be used to trick an opponent. At first, the player simply tries to use the guided missile to get a kill, but the slower movement and turn speed of the rocket – part of Epic Games’ nerf to the weapon – make it so their opponent can easily shoot it out of the sky.
Then, the Fortnite player happens upon an idea. Why not use the guided missile as a decoy and then snipe the other player while they are distracted. It’s a pretty brilliant strategy and shows just one of the many ways that the guided missile can be used in combat.
If nothing else, Fortnite consistently shows why Epic Games’ title is more than just the average battle royale game. With unique weapons like the guided missile, players can find clever ways to out-think their opponents or showcase impressive kills. Most figured that when the guided missile was first introduced that players were going to figure out a way to ride the rocket, but some even figured out how to ride their own rocket.

But it wasn’t the rocket riding that forced Epic Games to remove and rework the guided missile. The weapon was found to be extremely powerful, with little to no ways to counter it. Players could launch an endless barrage of missiles and the only course of action was to rush the opponent, which usually left that player vulnerable.
Now that the guided missile is back it’s slower, doesn’t turn as fast, and players can only carry 12 rockets total. However, 12 is plenty if the plan is to use the missile as a distraction not as an explosive.
