The fifth season of Fortnite allows gamers with a Battle Pass to unlock a basketball and shoot it as an emote, so it was only a matter of time until players started to get creative with their new hoop-shooting skills. Yesterday, a Fortnite player named Elliot Fox teamed up with a few of his friends and designed a platform that allowed them to sink a basket from over 500 meters away. The impressive feat was all captured on video, with Fox putting icing on the cake with a celebratory True Heart K-Pop dance near the end - not exactly something fans would see in the NBA.
To line up the impressive shot (which is unfortunately capped as a 3 pointer), Elliot Fox and his group of friends spent a little over an hour adjusting the path made for the basketballs, for which he had some ideas on how to improve the distance even further. The community reaction to Fox’s recorded 538m basketball shot has been overwhelmingly positive, and we expect to see plenty of gamers attempt to beat the record in the next few days - in fact, someone posted a 547m video nine hours after Fox’s video took off. In response, Fox claims to have now made a 579m basket, but is holding off on uploading it as he thinks he can do better.
Gamers can take a look at the impressive Fortnite basketball shot below (please click through to Reddit if the video is not working):
Elliot Fox provided some helpful tips for gamers trying to make similar shots: first, players can use the compass to make sure they’re situated perfectly in one direction so that the ball isn’t thrown off-target. The contraption that leads down to the basket has been nicknamed “The Cone” by Fox and his friends, and after some fine-tuning he believes about 50% of the balls that make it to the cone reach the basket. The most difficult part is just avoiding a bad bounce, he says, which can severely impact the basketball’s momentum.
Players hoping to make some dunks of their own will need to unlock the basketball toy first, which was just added in Season 5. Players can purchase the premium Battle Pass and play until they reach Tier 11, which will grant them access to the toy. Once it’s equipped as an emote, players will be able to launch some balls of their own.
This season has an active challenge for players to score a basket at five different locations, a feat which players have until September 27 to accomplish. There are about 10 known basketball locations in the world (Junk Junction, Snobby Shores, Tilted Towers, Greasy Grove, the area in between the last three, Lonely Lodge, Retail Row, south of the Wailing Woods, northwest of Fatal Fields, and Paradise Palms).
Fortnite is available now for iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
