After first being announced at this year’s E3, Prop Hunt has finally arrived on Fortnite. However, this isn’t your average LTM.
For the uninitiated, when it comes to battle royale gaming, the premise of the genre can sound incredibly boring. You land on a map with 99 other players, fight until you’re eliminated, and then start all over again. What’s that saying about the definition of insanity?
Truth be told, it can get a little tedious, especially if you’re not very good. It’s the job of game developers to keep things interesting. If they don’t, players will move onto the next gaming fad. When it comes to making things feel fresh, no battle royale-based game does it better than Fortnite. From its seasons to its Limited Time Modes to its weekly updates, Fortnite always feels fresh if you want it to.
Fortnite is far from landing on an island and being eliminated over and over again, unless that’s your jam, of course. It has a non-stop conveyor belt of LTMs, some of which are hits while others, not so much. Fortnite’s collaborations with Marvel and John Wick have made for LTMs we simply couldn’t stop playing earlier this year. This week, a new mode has arrived, sort of - Prop Hunt.
Epic announced at this year’s E3 that Prop Hunt would be coming to Fortnite. Some of you might well be familiar with the concept, as it has featured in other franchises such as Call Of Duty. It’s basically like an incredibly tense game of hide-and-seek. Half of the players disguise themselves as an in-game prop while the other half are tasked with hunting them down and eliminating them.
How It Works
Let us explain how Fortnite’s take on Prop Hunt will work. For starters, it won’t be taking place on your regularly scheduled Fortnite Island. Plus, although the mode is live now, you won’t find it in the list of modes to choose from. Due to the idea being created by StrayKite Studios in Fortnite’s Creative Mode, that’s where you’ll have to go to find it. Once in Creative Mode, use the code 6069-9263-9110 and you’ll be taken to the Prop Hunt island.
As mentioned above, before the Prop Hunt begins players will be split into two teams. Don’t panic though, everyone will get the opportunity to be both a prop and a hunter. Hiders will be tasked with using a brand new weapon, the Prop-O-Matic, to disguise themselves as one of Fortnite’s items. As you can see from Epic’s teaser, you can be almost anything. As a prop, you’ll have to try and sneak around undetected collecting gold coins.
As for the hunters, well, it’s simple. You’ll need to keep your eyes peeled for suspicious looking items that might simply be disguised players. Or, you know, a toilet running as fast as it can into a barn. Stop your rivals from collecting coins by destroying them. You have five minutes to do so after which time, you will get the chance to become a prop. The team that collects the most coins will be declared the winner.
How To Set Up Your Own Prop Hunt
Harking back to doing the same thing over and over again becoming boring, here comes perhaps the most exciting part of Prop Hunt. Players are not restricted to the specifically created island alone. The Prop-O-Matic is available in Creative Mode across the board, which means you and your friends can set up your own Prop Hunt on your very own maps.
How Long Will The LTM Last?
Last but not least, how long have you got to enjoy this LTM? Well, scratch what we just said as this might be the best news of all. Prop Hunt isn’t an LTM. According to Epic, it is here to stay for the foreseeable future. It will be assessed and adapted by the developers as times passes. Sounds as if Epic might well have big plans for Prop Hunt. We certainly hope so anyway.
So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and disguise yourself as a bale of hay before somebody sees you.
