There’s a new patch available for Fornite on PS4 this morning that is causing some confusion, for both the players and the developer. While the size of the patch seems to indicate that it is packed with new features and/or modes for Fortnite, it’s actually a pretty standard patch that somehow ended up being a ridiculous 10GB.
The purpose of update 3.4.4 was to address freezing issues and fix crashes on the PS4, but it inexplicably grew to a size that even threw Epic Games for a loop. The developer was quick to respond to the patch’s size through Twitter, where it acknowledged the issue and confirmed it was looking into it.
There’s no word yet on when the patch will be replaced with something smaller, but it might be in the best interest of players to hold off on downloading it until they get the OK from the developer. 10 GB is no easy download, and if a followup patch is right around the corner, it might be worth saving the data cap hit for some.
Now that the contents of this latest patch have been disclosed, it appears it won’t be addressing the current shotgun bug that’s been found in the game. This troublesome bug makes it so shotguns don’t register critical damage. The weapon has been receiving criticism for some time for its inconsistencies, but the developer has only recently responded to the issue, saying that the team is investigating. There was no word yet on a possible fix, however.
As for what’s right around the corner for Fortnite, Epic Games has revealed through the game’s Message of the Day that vending machines are being added later this week. They will give players the opportunity to trade in materials, such as metal, wood, and bricks, for gear. It isn’t totally clear how the whole thing will work, such as the exchange rates and what quality the gear will be, but players will find out momentarily, as the vending machine is listed as “coming soon”.
Fortnite Battle Royale is available for free on PC, PlayStation 4, iOS, and Xbox One.
