Well, Apex Legends, you’re doing well, but nobody dethrones the mighty Fortnite that easily. Epic’s much-beloved build-and-shoot ‘em up is hitting back on Twitch.

Now, you’ve probably heard of a little game called Apex Legends. Like all the biggest deals in the industry, it emerged seemingly out of nowhere, quite recently, and has quickly established itself as one of the hottest properties around.

You know how gamers can be. Everybody’s playing Apex Legends right now. If you’re not playing it, you’re watching others play it. Watching is proving more popular than playing, in this case, but that’s not really important. All that matters is it’s all Apex Legends, all the time.

The question is, has the game become the next Fortnite? It seems so, in the steamrolling-everything-else-and-becoming-a-pop-culture-phenomenon-in-its-own-right sense. While it appears to be hellbent on appearing absolutely everywhere, including mobile, it looks like Fortnite is going to have a thing or two to say about being number two.

We’re a fickle bunch, aren’t we? Some players flit from the game of the moment to the next, making the game’s popularity ebb and flow as a result. What Fortnite needed was something to deflect attention from Apex Legends and keep players firmly in its corner, and that’s just what we’ve been seeing.

With the spangly new Season 8 Battle Pass offer (complete those challenges and get the pass for free!) and the 7.40 patch in general (no, we don’t want to see players’ stats that detailed, we’re not good enough), there’s a whole lot going on in the Fortnite universe, right now, and in the future.

What does all of this amount to for Fortnite? Well, this:

That’s right, friends. Apex Legends may have shot straight to the top over on Twitch, but it’s got quite a battle on its hands to retain the top spot. There’s sure to be a lot of jockeying for position in the coming weeks and months.

Where do you stand on the issue? Are you a full Apex Legends convert? Is Fortnite always going to be number one for you? Do you have room in your gaming-loving heart for both titles? Let us know!
