The Fortnite World Cup and the long wait for the end of season 9 are over and Fortnite Season 10 day is finally here. The new season means fans of the battle royale game will have a whole new batch of skin and challenges to become familiar with, but those aren’t the only changes. It’s become a bit of a traditional for the map to feature some changes with each major season update and Season 10 is no exception to the rule. Although some of these changes are looking to the past for inspiration…

Fortnite’s map has evolved quite a bit since launch and the team at Epic isn’t afraid to blow things up and keeps players guessing. The frequent changes allow for shifts in the meta strategy at both a casual and competitive tournament level and help keep the game fresh and exciting. A quick review of the Season 10 changes confirm that these adjustments are definitely going to successfully alter the way players approach the map until the next season arrives.

Keep in mind that the season change is still fresh and players are still exploring and studying the new layout and searching for smaller changes to the map. We’ve outlined all currently identified changes, but this list may grow in the future as other, more subtle, alterations are discovered.

A full reset of the Fortnite map didn’t come to fruition, but longtime fans will be excited about at least one of the changes. For those interested in the Fortnite lore, it seems that the orb explosion at Loot Lake triggered all of the Season 10 map changes.

Dusty Depot Returns!

Although Dusty Depot had been destroyed by a meteor and turned into Dusty Divot in a past season, that’s all changing. The original three depot location has been restored to its prior glory and is back on the map.

Fortnite players who have been around the block will likely remember that destroying Dusty Depot had a major impact on the metagame and resurrecting the location is likely going to have the same effect. Get ready to revisit all those same old arguments about shootouts in that location.

OG Factories Are Back

Just like Dusty Depot, the three buildings on the outskirts of Dusty Depot, lovingly known as the OG Factories, are miraculously back on the map, as well. These buildings were also wiped out by the meteor, but Season 10 is retconing that destruction.

Rift Zones

Rift Zones on the map now alter points of interest in different ways. Details on this are still emerging, but one example would be a Rift Zone that doesn’t allow players to build anything and forces them to only use the existing structures for cover. This mechanic sounds like it’s going to add some really unique challenges to the new season, so expect it to be a hot topic.

Meteor Site

The meteor that was featured in the Season 10 trailer has landed and players can now visit it on the map. The exact nature of the thing hasn’t been confirmed yet, but more information will likely arrive as the season develops.

More Changes On The Way…

Keep in mind that this is just the beginning. The patch notes strongly hint that additional iconic locations from the past may soon be restored to their original state before Season 10 is over, as well. It seems like the ongoing events may slowly bring more pieces of the original map as the season progresses, but we’ll have to wait and see if there ends up being a full map reset or not.
