Fortnite’s in-game events seem to get bigger and better with each season. Chapter One of the iconic battle royale game came to an end with an event that saw the island disappear into a black hole. Millions of people then watched a blank screen, waiting for something to happen. That alone goes to show the hold Fortnite has over so many people around the world.
Since then, Travis Scott has held in-game concerts, the first of which was watched by a staggering 12.3 million in-game. Then as Season 2 turned into Season 3, Midas used his ominous Device to summon a terrifying wall of water. Again, that event was watched by millions. So how exactly does Epic top that in Season 3?
Perhaps by staging a can’t-miss battle between a superhero and a supervillain. Fortnite has had ongoing relationships with both Marvel and DC, and this season, Aquaman calls the island home. The Fortilla is the Justice League member’s home base right now, but there’s a pretty strong theory that a currently empty underwater canyon could soon be turned into his home of Atlantis. Could that be the setting for an epic battle?
What’s more, data miners have discovered that a Black Manta skin will be added to the in-game store later this month. For those unfamiliar with the Aquaman comic books, Black Manta is the hero’s arch-nemesis. While there’s a chance nothing more than a skin and his blades are added to Fortnite, there’s also a chance that Black Manta plays a role in Season 3’s thread and arrives to wreak havoc on Atlantis.
It has been almost a year to the day since Fortnite held an in-game event that pitted two big rivals against one another. On that occasion, a giant mech did battle with an enormous sea monster, and players were able to watch it all unfold. We can’t think of a better battle to take place in Season 3 than Aquaman versus Black Manta, with players watching on from the streets of Atlantis.
