While Fortnite Season 5 has already introduced some exciting crossover skins, some of the changes made to the battle royale’s gameplay have not been as well received. Popular streamer xQc has been quick to criticize the latest Fortnite changes, particularly regarding their impact on competitive play.

While xQc spent some time away from Fortnite and experienced the toxicity of some Call of Duty players firsthand, the streamer returned to the Epic Games title recently. However, upon queuing up for a match and playing through the game, xQc quickly found something he disliked about the latest Fortnite build. While Fortnite’s quests and bots have been a strong point in recent months, xQc has one major issue with the side missions.

The major issue xQc has with things like the Mandalorian Mythic Boss Fight is less to do with the design of the side mission and more so how it has been included in competitive modes. Recently, Epic Games unlocked some of Season 5’s new gameplay additions, including them in both casual play and competitive — something that clearly bothered xQc. The streamer vented to his audience, saying “how is it that I queue for a competitive game mode and there is quests to do, there’s bots, there’s side missions” before adding that he “queued to play against players.”

While xQc previously praised Cyberpunk 2077 for some of the moves taken regarding streams of the game, his criticism of this Fortnite decision is equally valid. After all, including casual features in Fortnite’s competitive mode makes little sense, as it leads to there being no real difference between the gameplay of the two modes. Many fans have agreed with xQc that players who want to focus purely on PvP gameplay should be able to do so, especially in a competitive setting.

xQc does not ask for NPCs and side missions to be removed from the game entirely, but just the competitive mode. The streamer firmly believes that it would be a good idea to “put all the casual stuff in the casual game mode,” as the addition of NPCs and side mission rewards is “unfair to people who only care about competitive.” Much like xQc’s views on his own Twitch ban, he would surely see a greater separation between competitive and casual Fortnite modes as a good thing.

Whether Epic Games gives in and reworks the competitive game mode based on the requests of xQc remains to be seen, as the team seems focused on securing more crossovers like Halo’s Master Chief. It is worth noting that xQc is not alone, however, as many other Fortnite players have shared similar complaints regarding competitive mode.

Fortnite is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
