Each season, Epic Games finds a new way to keep the Fortnite experience fresh without actually changing the core gameplay. So while players continue to run around the same island trying to stay alive while eliminating the competition, Epic has infused the experience with new features, new modes, and even some dramatic changes to the world. Season 4 represented the biggest change of pace, after a meteor strike fundamentally changed parts of the map.

In a new post on Reddit, Epic Games announced that players have another two days to finish everything for season 4. An in-game timer has recently been updated to better keep players aware of exactly how much time remains in the season. Epic also confirmed that Season 5 of Fortnite is locked in and set to begin on July 12, though the company didn’t divulge any new details on what the season’s theme may be.

Thanks to a recent missile launch in-game, strange rift events have taken hold which will no doubt affect season 5 in some way. Not only have these rifts started pulling in random objects like a carriage from the Old West, but these portals have also removed bits and pieces from the map as well. The Tomato Town mascot was sucked through a rift as well as the Durr Burger statue from Greasy Grove. In an impressive marketing stunt, a real-life statue of Durr Burger actually appeared near Palmdale, California.

So while these dimensional rifts will likely play a role in season 5, dataminers have already found a few cosmetic items that have been added to the game’s files that have yet to be officially added. At the moment, these items appear to be limited to differently themed contrails, the effects that appear as players fall towards the island at the start of a match. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a theme that ties these items together, so the season 5 theme remains a mystery for now.

Fortnite is currently available on iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
