Like every new season of Epic Games’ popular battle royale game Fortnite, season 7 begins with a major event and map change. For this upcoming season, an iceberg crashes into the battle island, bringing with it an army whose intent is not entirely clear. It is clear, however, that they are not friendly to those living on Fortnite’s battle island.
In the cinematic trailer below, players see a Santa-like character essentially declare war, summoning forth an army of fighter planes - a new aerial vehicle known as the X-4 Stormwing Plane - and killer snowmen. Beyond new Fortnite skins and items, this iceberg also brings about a number of new map changes.
Of course, the biggest is the new major winter biome thanks to the iceberg collision. Smaller named locations on the island include Frosty Flights, Polar Peak, and Happy Hamlet. Moreover, the entire Fortnite battle island has also changed, as there new snowy areas and icy surfaces that players can slide on (much like the Chiller trap, though that has been vaulted.)
Players will likely discover more as they drop onto the battle island, as other unnamed Points of Interests have also been added to the map. Furthermore, Fortnite players will discover that ziplines have been added to the iceberg and near Expedition Outposts. Latching onto one end will zip the player to the other.
Luckily, weapons and items will be useable on the zipline, so players aren’t entirely defenseless. One final map-related change that may excite gamers is the increased chance of final circles ending on the outer edges of the map, meaning final rounds on the iceberg are bound to happen. Fortnite Players should be forewarned, however, that the iceberg is likely to be a hot battle zone for a while since it is the latest addition to the game.
