There’s a lot happening in the massively popular shooter Fortnite, as season 7 brought with it a new winter look in addition to plenty of new content to chase. Alongside the newly announced Creative mode, a new Save the World event is kicking off quite soon that pits players against what many are describing as a final boss known as The Storm King. In the near term, another week means another update and this one brings a very unique new melee weapon to the game.
Detailed in the latest Fortnite blog, update 7.01 adds the Infinity Blade melee weapon, which is based on Epic’s mobile game of the same name. While it looks like a normal sword, this weapon not only deals a very powerful and damaging sword slash, but it destroys structures in a single blow. The sword features an alternative mode that enables the user to jump a large distance, destroying anything in its path, and adding damage and knockback to anything near the player’s point of impact. In addition, the person wielding the sword immediately gets full shields and health, increased movement speed, added health regeneration, as well as a health burst on any kill.
Considering how powerful the weapon is, only one player can claim it from the mountaintop of Polar Peak. Keep in mind that the person using the sword will have all inventory items outside of building materials dropped. Even picking up anything else will cause the sword to drop. Similar to the special, limited time mode involving Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet, only one sword exists in a match and will drop as soon as the player using it is killed to allow for another person to pick it up and continue the rampage.
Another big piece to this update is the general availability of Fortnite Creative for all players. Previously restricted to season 7 Battle Pass owners, this new mode gives players five islands to utilize in making anything they want. Being able to spawn prefabricated structures or create items on the fly, many players have already used the opportunity to craft all sorts of new game modes or maps such as classic Call of Duty maps. The recently revealed Block space has also been added to this mode on the fifth island, providing the exact space that exists now on top of Risky Reels, letting players see exactly how their creation would fit on that space.
Fortnite is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
