In season 8, it seems as if the Ice King, the Prisoner, pirates, and more are fighting over newfound treasure on the Fortnite battle island. With the arrival of these new pirates and the rising volcano, there has also been a significant number of map changes for the new season befitting the pirate and ninja heavy season 8 Battle Pass.

The two big changes, of course, are the addition of two new named locations: Lazy Lagoon and Sunny Step. Until players can drop on the battle island, there’s not much known about either, but it stands to reason that Sunny Step will be for the prisoner what Polar Peak is for the Ice King. Lazy Lagoon replaces Lazy links, the golf course section of the map, so a lot of attention has clearly been paid to the top right section of the map.

As seen below, the Volcano also fully replaces Wailing Woods, meaning it and Lazy Links are now gone. Risky Reels is back, though, and the Block has moved toward the top left section of the map. These major changes, coupled with the three vehicles vaulted this season, mean that the battle island is more different now than ever.

The new Fortnite season 8 map changes also include lava and Volcanic Vents, so players will want to be ever mindful of their surroundings. Lava will deal 1 damage per touch to players and cause them to bounce off the surface, whereas the Volcanic Vents will boost players and vehicles into the sky. Mobility is still the name of the game, so players may want to be extra wary of the environment.

Alongside the map changes, the season 8 Battle Pass also includes some interesting new characters, namely the ninja Hybrid, a tattooed heroine, Blackheart, and a new banana-themed skin. It’s worth mentioning that a lot of players likely got this Battle Pass free from the Overtime challenge, so expect to see at least the starter skins running around the volcano, Lazy Lagoon, and Sunny Steps for the first days of season 8.

Fortnite is out now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
