Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 is quickly coming to a close and all eyes are on the transition to Season 4, yet for the first time in Fortnite’s history, the end of the season is calm. Where there’s usually preparation for a live in-game event, there’s a surprising lull. And yet, Fortnite players know something big is coming. They don’t need to speculate about that, either, because Epic has said so, and Fortnite players should expect the story to kick into “overdrive” soon.
Perhaps sensing that Fortnite plans were growing nervous about the transition to Season 4, Epic Worldwide Creative Director Donald Mustard took to Twitter to tantalize fans. “It’s ALL connected. Pay attention. The story is about to kick into overdrive…” Mustard’s tweet to Fortnite fans reads, his insinuation being that not only are things about to get exciting, but that Fortnite’s history may play a major role in what’s to come.
Mustard does have a specific idea in mind with his tweet, however, following a more official reveal from Epic regarding Fortnite’s upcoming plans. On Friday, Fortnite revealed an official Marvel crossover of some kind, the only clue being that it’s related to the ongoing Marvel comic Thor, in which Thor has been infused with the Power Cosmic by Galactus. Mustard’s tweet appears to hint that this Thor event, which starts on the day Season 4 is scheduled to begin, has deeper implications than first implied.
Then on Saturday morning, following Mustard’s tweet, things started happening. First, a teaser showing Thor in full was released, and following that, another teaser, this time featuring Galactus himself, was shared titled was “Prelude to War.” After that, dataminers discovered even more teasers, this time featuring Jonesey and Raven, two Fortnite characters, directly interacting with Thor in a comic strip. A major Fortnite and Marvel superheroes crossover is coming, and this likely isn’t just a skin sale.
The question left for Fortnite players to discover is just what the scope of the crossover will be, and Mustard’s Twitter post implies something major is coming. Thor and Galactus starting a war to follow is already a big deal, but the story somehow connecting to past Fortnite or Marvel events would be even bigger.
Epic Games is all but certain to continue releasing teasers for Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4 in the days to come, and with less than a week until Season 4 launches on August 27, things are going to happen very quickly.
Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
