Epic Games’ Fortnite continues to release new characters from the Marvel Comics universe as part of its Chapter 2, Season 4 content. Though the battle royale has taken a breather from comic book heroes and villains to host a Halloween event featuring Shadow Midas, it will soon be putting Marvel back in the limelight with a Knockout Super Series competitive cup based around Ghost Rider.
No release date has been given for the Ghost Rider-themed content, as Fortnite’s Twitter account simply teased its release today by posting a silhouetted image of the character captioned with two emoji: A skull and flames. That Fortnite would be getting a Ghost Rider skin leaked in October, as one fan datamined information from the Fortnitemares Halloween update and discovered a new achievement based around the character.
Whenever it becomes available, this Ghost Rider cup will be the second part of the Marvel Knockout Super Series hosted in Fortnite. Taking place October 14, the first Knockout Super Series cup was based on Daredevil, offering teams who scored well in a limited-time mode that grants specific superpowers the opportunity to receive a Daredevil skin before it launched in the store. Epic Games promised three more cups would be hosted throughout November, and on November 21 there is going to be a final tournament where players can win $1 million.
Given this timetable laid out by the developer last month, Fortnite fans should expect the two cups following Ghost Rider to arrive much quicker than it took between Daredevil and the fiery Spirit of Vengeance. Those who join in all four cups, which take the form of four-round elimination brackets, can also receive a unique Nexus War Glider, according to Epic Games.
Despite this season’s overall focus on Marvel Comics, there are other events planned to take place in Fortnite over the next few weeks. On November 8, a tournament based around Australian Fortnite content creator Lachlan will take place alongside the launch of his “Icon Series” gear - also given to Ninja and Loserfruit in the past.
That being said, fans of the comic book content which has taken over the battle royale need not worry about seeing it disappear anytime soon. Fortnite Creative Director Donald Mustard said there are “many years of Marvel integration” planned, with a grand battle against the world-eater Galactus being established as one major event set to take place in the near future.
