You can master Fortnite’s new Charge Shotgun using this clever keybind trick which makes firing the gun much faster.

Replacing the game’s Pump Shotgun, the Charge Shotgun was introduced into the game with the launch of Chapter 2: Season 3 of Fortnite: Battle Royale back on June 17th. This season, entitled “Splashdown!” and themed around water and all things aquatic, will still be running until August 27th, 2020.

The Charge Shotgun, along with the Boom Bow, was amongst the first weapon in Fortnite: Battle Royale to feature a charge-up shot mechanic. This sets it apart from other guns in its class, and as cool as this charge-up mechanic is, the extra time it takes to execute it (by holding down your fire button before shooting) can be quite detrimental during gun fights.

Players since found that double-clicking the fire button makes the Shotgun fire faster (i.e. without being charged-up), so that’s at least something. But there’s still a bit of a delay with this technique, too. So that’s where this new hack discovered by Redditor Alukarulz comes in handy, which cuts out that waiting time completely. Here are the three easy steps you’ll need to take to do so:

  • Open your settings menu and navigate to the Keyboard Controls tab. Select the ‘Fire’ button and add ‘Mouse Wheel Up’ as a secondary keybind. When you have the Charge Shotgun, all you will need to do is scroll the mouse wheel upwards to fire.

Unfortunately, there’s still a catch or two. This trick obviously only works for PC; no equivalent trick for the console version has been found yet. And this technique still doesn’t allow for the enhanced damage potential that comes with the charge-up shots, so you have a bit of a toss-up between speed and damage dealt to decide between.

Regardless, this easy hack does allow for Shotgun-wielding PC players to up their gunfire ante a bit which could make all the difference in those more sticky Battle Royale situations.
