It won’t be too much longer before Fortnite Battle Royale’s Season 8 arrives for fans of the free-to-play title to experience, and many are wondering what kind of changes will come to the game, with one persistent theory being that there will be some environment alterations by way of an earthquake. While this has yet to be fully confirmed, Epic Games did recently pipe up to declare that one of Fortnite’s vehicles–that is, the X-4 Stormwing Plane–will be put in the Vault for Season 8.
This much was revealed by Epic Games’ Design Lead Eric Williamson during an AMA session on Fortnite Battle Royale’s official subreddit, with the developer stating that Stormwing Planes will go into the Vault “at the start” of the eighth season. With this being the case, he urged players to “get [their] airtime in now”, as the aerial vehicles won’t be available to pilot when Season 8 officially goes live.
While some may be disappointed that the X-4 Stormwing Plane will be taken out of Fortnite Battle Royale soon, others will likely rejoice at this decision due to the way in which the planes were often used as an overpowered weapon. Epic tried combating this issue with various nerfs, with one of the more recent changes involving the full removal of the ability to do damage to a structure by flying through it. Nevertheless, it looks as if the developer couldn’t find a satisfactory way to properly balance Stormwing Planes altogether, which is likely why they are being Vaulted for the time being.
Of course, while the X-4 Stormwing Plane is being Vaulted for Season 8, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the vehicle won’t ever see the light of day again in Fortnite. After all, Epic has temporarily retired a bunch of different items and Limited Time Modes (LTMs) in the past, only to bring them back in a revised manner down the line.
All things considered, it will be interesting to see if Epic decides to incorporate any other aerially-inclined apparatuses in the X-4 Stormwing Plane’s stead once Season 8 officially begins. Until then, though, Fortnite players can keep themselves busy by completing 13 Overtime Challenges before February 27, 2019 for the chance to earn Season 8’s Battle Pass for free.
Fortnite is available now in early access for Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
