2020’s novel Coronavirus has been the center of attention for the last several months as it continues to plague the world, canceling events and endangering millions of lives. The newest gaming event to be canceled is the Fortnite World Cup 2020.
COVID-19 has spread worldwide, making whole communities ill and taking lives. So it’s not a surprise that tons of events all over have been canceled, including many gaming events, like EVO 2020 and TwitchCon. Gaming communities continue to be disappointed as more and more events are added to the canceled list, even though it is for the best.
The latest gaming event to be canceled is the Fortnite World Cup. While Fortnite is mostly played online, Epic has decided to cancel the international event because of the limitations of cross-region play. There is a massive problem on Fortnite when trying to play with other regions that can ruin a real-time, online game, like lag and connection issues. Therefore, Epic canceled its massive worldwide event since it could not be held in a single location.
Although players won’t get to see or participate in world events, Fortnite will still most likely to continue hosting regional online tournaments, live concerts like the Travis Scott concert, and other events that quarantined players can connect to from home. It’s really a shame that the live World Cup event won’t be happening, but with the CORVID pandemic, it’s best that players stay home and stay safe.
Lucky for Fortnite lovers, it looks like all the future tournaments will be online, and players will be able to watch all the action from home. So there will be some tournaments in the future for players to watch, even if the World Cup isn’t one of them. Hopefully the world will able to go back to normal before the World Cup for 2021.
Until then, Fortnite players will have to tune in from their couches. And in the meantime, they should have a number of in-game events to look forward to in the near future, including the long-awaited launch of Chapter 2 Season 3.
Fortnite is available for mobile, PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One.
