It seems that Prince Noctis’ journey won’t be ending for a long time. Square Enix has revealed that four more DLC “Episodes” will be released for Final Fantasy XV throughout 2018 and 2019.
Hajime Tabata (the director of Final Fantasy XV) has revealed in an interview with Famitsu magazine that four new DLC Episodes are in development and will be released over the next two years. The first new DLC Episode will be “Episode Ardyn” which will focus on the villain of the game. It’s possible that we may see some of his backstory and learn whether he is speaking the truth over the claims of his identity.
Tabata also claimed that an Episode focusing on Lunafreya may also happen, though he wouldn’t confirm whether it was definitely happening or not. He also stated that these Episodes won’t necessarily be occurring the timeline of the main story, which means that we might be seeing more of the backstory of the world of Final Fantasy XV, or maybe even its future.
The fans are now wondering who the remaining three episodes will focus on. A likely candidate is Aranea, due to her combat ability and involvement with the cast throughout the story. Aranea fights alongside Ignis and his friends at various points in Final Fantasy XV and even switches allegiances against Ardyn. It would be interesting to learn more about her background and motivations.
Lunafreya is another strong candidate to receive a DLC Episode. She has a major role to play in the story, but she doesn’t have any combat ability (or at least any that we see of) so her Episode might be like a Telltale game.
It’s possible that Cor, Iris, or Ravus might have their own Episodes, as they also acted as temporary party members and had important roles in the story.
The previous DLC Episodes of Final Fantasy XV focused on Noctis’ companions and they had a polarizing reception among the fans. Episode Gladiolus was very short and straight-forward, Episode Prompto was essentially a retread of Metal Gear Solid, while Episode Ignis answered questions that really should have been answered in the main game, rather than being saved for DLC.
The first new Episode of the second season of Final Fantasy XV is expected to launch sometime in 2018.
