Last week, the free PlayStation Plus games for April 2020 leaked online, revealing Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Dirt Rally 2.0. It’s now been confirmed that the free PS Plus games for April 2020 leak was accurate, as Sony has announced Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Dirt Rally 2.0 as the free games for fans to download in April.

It’s unclear why Sony didn’t reveal the free PS Plus games for April 2020 on the last Wednesday of the previous month like it usually does, especially since the games leaked online anyway, but the official announcement is still appreciated. It may have to do with the fact that the free PS Plus games for April 2020 won’t be available until April 7, and so it didn’t want to make the announcement and then make fans wait two weeks to claim the free games.

As far as free PS Plus offerings go, the April 2020 free games are likely to please a lot of fans. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is a hugely popular game and one of the highest-rated PS4 exclusives to date. It stands to reason that many PS Plus subscribers already have Uncharted 4, though, and so that may temper some excitement a bit. Dirt Rally 2.0, meanwhile, is nothing to scoff at, holding an impressive 83 average score on review aggregate site OpenCritic at the time of this writing.

While some fans may be bummed out that they have to wait until April 7 to claim the new free PS Plus games, at least that gives subscribers some extra time to claim the free PS Plus games for March 2020. The free PS Plus games for March 2020 include Shadow of the Colossus and Sonic Forces, so the PlayStation Plus program has had two very solid months in a row.

In the meantime, Microsoft has also announced the free games it will be offering to Xbox Live Gold subscribers for April as well. The free Xbox Live Games with Gold for April 2020 are headlined by Fable Anniversary on Xbox 360 and Project Cars 2 on Xbox One. Unlike with PS Plus, Xbox Live Gold subscribers don’t have to wait until next Tuesday to claim their free games, and are free to grab them starting today.

With Shadow of the Colossus in March and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in April, Sony appears to be making some of its biggest PS4 games free through the PS Plus program. This could be part of its lead-up to the PS5 release, and it will be interesting to see if the momentum continues with May 2020’s free PS Plus games.
