There’s nothing more frustrating than being in the middle of a match in Friday the 13th when all of a sudden the host disappears from the game. This has been an ongoing issue for players for quite some time, but fortunately, the developers have a solution.
A new currency, appropriately christened Salt, will be making its way to Friday the 13th very soon. However, instead of using this currency to buy something cool, it will be used to send quitters to the Salt Mines.
In a post on the game’s forums, Gun Media community lead ShiftySamurai laid out the groundwork for this new system. There are a few ways players can earn Salt:
- Leave a match early Leave a match while being killed Leave a match as Jason Leave a match while hosting
The Salty players will be exiled to the Salt Mines, where they are kept to their own matchmaking queue that only consists of other Salty game quitters. According to the post, Salty players will play together in Quick Play, but can play with anyone in Private Matches. While it is not made clear how much Salt you earn for each of the above transgressions, ShiftySamurai does say that Salt will go away with time.
The concept of the Salt Mines was mostly well-received by Friday the 13th fans, despite some lingering concern over the much-awaited arrival of dedicated servers to fix the issue of host-quitting.
Bad player behavior has been a problem with Friday the 13th for a while now. The team behind the game has had to address issues such as team-killing, spamming chat, and using mods, cheats, or bots for the game. And this isn’t the first time mid-game quitting has had to be addressed either.
Another factor that leads to players’ tendency to quit is whether or not they get to play as Jason. Obviously, not everyone can be the iconic killer during a match, so this leads to players dropping out. However, this is likely to change with the game’s next patch, which will produce a type of ticket system for playing as Jason. Knowing a system is in place to increase their chances, ideally, players will be more likely to stick with a game in the hopes that they might get to be Jason in the next round.
The Salt currency will roll out with the game’s engine upgrade update.
Friday the 13th is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
