The developers at Gun Media release a new trailer for Friday the 13th: The Game, revealing that the title will bring back Tommy Jarvis as a character in the game.

Although Friday the 13th: The Game got pushed back from its launch in 2016 and was delayed to add a single-player campaign, the postponement has given developers at Gun Media ample time to flesh out the title more fully in other areas as well in order to make for an all-around better product. For instance, the game’s creators have now confirmed it was able to a fulfill much-desired fan request beyond its Kickstarter stretch goals by revealing that the character Tommy Jarvis will appear in the new game as a playable character portrayed by actor Thom Mathews.

As reported by RelyOnHorror, fans will be able to take on the role of Jarvis by working alongside the title’s camp counselors as they attempt to survive while Jason tries to kill them in myriad ways. As seen in the announcement trailer for Friday the 13th: The Game below, Jarvis even shouts his famous line of calling Jason a “maggot head” that the character made famous in Friday the 13th VI: Jason Lives.

The trailer depicts Jarvis as wielding a shotgun, but not much else is known about his abilities in Friday the 13th: The Game beyond that, due to the clip being quite short. That said, it will be interesting to see if the character will be able to counter any of Jason’s kills in any capacity or if he has any special features in order to set him apart and make him significantly more effective than his camp counselor counterparts.

For those who are excited about Jarvis’ addition to Friday the 13th: The Game, they will likely have to wait until the horror title’s launch in spring 2017 to utilize the character, but fans will still be able to try out the release before it officially drops. Those who contributed to Gun Media’s Kickstarter campaign for the title and have already pre-ordered their copy of Friday the 13th: The Game will be privy to a hands-on preview of its multiplayer by way of a PC beta soon enough.

The inclusion of actor Thom Mathews as Tommy Jarvis in Friday the 13th: The Game is further evidence of the title’s creators at Gun Media and Illfonic doing due diligence in adapting the film franchise into the gaming medium. Not only is Mathews’ reprisal of his character in the movies an example of the horror flicks being given the proper treatment, but also the developers have the likes of the series’ award-winning special make-up effects creator Tom Savini, composer of the films’ soundtracks Harry Manfredini, and Jason actor Kane Hodder doing motion capture work to provide credibility and authenticity to the project.

Taking all of this into consideration, it’s safe to say that Friday the 13th fans are practically champing at the bit in anticipation of the game’s release. Until then, though, they will have to tide themselves over with gameplay footage and updates from Gun Media and Illfonic.

Friday the 13th: The Game is set for release sometime in spring 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
