Today, the video game publisher Gun Media confirmed in a statement to the fine folks at GameSpot that it plans to share news regarding Friday the 13th: The Game’s forthcoming single-player mode sometime “soon.” When the survival horror multiplayer title launched this past May, the company had originally told fans that they should expect to be offered a solo experience by way of a free update sometime this summer, so it simply wanted to remind them that the feature is still in the works.
Shortly following its launch, Friday the 13th: The Game encountered myriad problems, with one of the most glaring issues having affected the Xbox One version, which has currently taken up most of the developers’ time, thus hampering the team’s ability to roll out a single-player mode sooner. According to Gun Media, “Our primary concern has remained the persistent memory leak, which is an issue that has been most prevalent on Xbox One. This leak, as of most recent tests, is looking contained and we are very confident in a fix thanks to a tremendous effort from Illfonic and 3rd party support.”
Although Gun Media has devoted most of its manpower toward resolving Friday the 13th: The Game’s lingering issues, the developers have still been able to continue work on the single-player update, which is a good sign that it could be coming out any day now. The publisher went on to explain the situation by saying, “Thankfully, due to the huge amount of support we’ve received from fans, our team has been able to expand work on future content to coincide with our focus on fixing performance issues. We are incredibly excited to share news very soon, including more on the upcoming single-player mode that will be available at no additional charge.”
Despite the current lack of single-player and the litany of issues that affected Friday the 13th: The Game, the survival horror title still managed to top digital PS4 game sales for June 2017, but it’s quite possible it could have pulled out even more in sales should it have included a single-player mode at launch. Nevertheless, fans looking for the solo experience hopefully won’t have to wait much longer, as Gun Media will likely announce details about the mode in the coming days and weeks.
Friday the 13th: The Game is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
