It’s no secret that Friday the 13th: The Game got off to a rocky start at launch, but things have gotten better in the months since. There are still areas that the asymmetrical multiplayer game can improve, but the developers also need to keep players interested with new content and updates.
One of the most anticipated of the Friday the 13th updates is the release of Part 4 Jason, one of the first new skins being added for the game’s iconic killer. Fans still haven’t seen much of Jason Part 4 in action, but this week developers Illfonic and Gun Media gave them a closer look at the character’s design.
As expected, this new Jason skin represents its film counterpart well, with a mask that is far less streamlined than some of the later movie versions. This is Jason in the early days – some even refer to this as “human Jason” – so his mask is a bit larger. You can also see some of the deformities hidden by the mask, which suggests that going for the Jason kill against this skin might reveal some new horrors.
We also know from previous reveals that Jason Part 4 will be using a new weapon in Friday the 13th: The Game, a pig splitter. Essentially a cleaver with a very elongated handle, the pig splitter is sure to setup even more gruesome camp counselor kills and have its fair share of advantages and disadvantages. To that point, Gun Media and Illfonic have yet to detail what Part 4 Jason will offer in terms of match viability. Some skins are better suited for grab kills, while others focus on melee or ranged combat. With a weapon like the pig splitter, one has to assume Jason Part 4 will keep some distance, but how much is unclear.
As far as when Jason Part 4 will release, the Friday the 13th developers have provided a roadmap for additional content and the skin is next on the docket. Last week, the Spring Break 1984 DLC released and added some skimpy swimwear to the counselor customization options. Now it’s Jason’s turn to occupy the spotlight.
Friday the 13th is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
