I wish My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic was out when I was a little girl. From what I’ve seen, the world-building, characters and fandom are huge and not even close to running out of steam. If you look up anything on the internet and write “pony” next to it, you’re going to see My Little Pony characters, original characters, and even entire fan-made storylines.
The colors pop and the fan art knows no limits. We have ponies with horns, wings, and magic. We have dragons, griffins, monsters, and Equestria lore. Boys and girls of all ages can find something worth loving in the cartoon. We have actual Pony conventions! Is there anything this fandom does not have? They even have a show about the ponies as humans!
I don’t even watch the show and I know what cutie mark I’d have, because I’ve seen enough of the show second-hand that I’ve given the cutie mark some thought. I’d have a mollusk, because I like to draw them. Don’t pretend you haven’t looked up what cutie mark you would have. If you haven’t, I’m willing to bet you are doing it right now.
With “friendship is magic” in the title, it sounds like the show should go hand-in-hand with Disney. Despite gaining a wide audience, the show’s target is and always will be young kids, which is the same boat Disney has sailed for decades. The viewership tends to fluctuate, however, and this is well-known on the internet.
So let me show you some Disney characters reimagined as ponies from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic!
25 Tail As Old As Time
I love how gentle this fanart looks. The pale yellow fur goes well with Belle’s iconic princess dress. Her hair reflects the ballroom scene as well, so I can picture her dancing with the Beast in that sweet scene. While I don’t watch My Little Pony, I am well aware that the horns are magical and can give the pony telekinesis powers.
Belle having that power might make it more difficult in the beginning, when she is more of a prisoner than a guest.
I’m also really intrigued by the Beast in this, he totally looks like some sort of Chimera dragon-horse amalgam. It looks really cool, and this version is much more creative than the other Beast pony we have, a little lower in this list.

24 Everypony Loves Halloween
Oh no, I feel a pony pun coming: It’s NightMARE Before Christmas! I know that was bad, but it had to happen. Sally makes a super cute pony and I think she’s definitely the star of this list. She has that doll-like charm that makes her look floppy, which the original Claymation version had a difficult time accomplishing.
Jack looks a little awkward, but translating him into a pony is a challenge I wouldn’t personally be able to succeed at.
Keeping him skeletal would be difficult in pony style, without making him look like a horse for the horsemen of the apocalypse to ride. But it’s Halloween Town, maybe we should embrace that look!
Do ponies have pet dogs in the series? Do they have pets? I know Fluttershy is big with animals, but not in an ownership kind of way.

23 A Pony Snow Queen
I think Frozen can easily translate to My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. It’s about sisterly love, and that is so kid-friendly. From what I know about the series, My Little Pony tackles the same issues as Frozen. It discusses the importance of communication and the issues that can come with isolation. The lessons of the series and this movie seem to match. Also, Elsa having powers would make more sense in this franchise.
It still baffles me that we don’t really get an explanation as to why Elsa has ice powers in the first place.
The cutie mark being a snowflake is a rather obvious and correct choice. I imagine this image is the “Let it Go” song since she looks happy and is using her ice powers. She is also wearing that awesome ice dress.

22 Raponyzul
Ha! Flynn’s cutie mark is money. That’s hilarious and would make him suspicious to all ponies in the world. Cops would be onto him the moment they saw that mark. Everypony would be!
I guess in this alternate universe, Maximus would just be a regular cop? That kind of ruins what makes him a fun character.
Also why do ponies in My Little Pony wear saddles? That is a man-made contraption for riding horses! Why wear them in a world where no one rides them? I guess they are kind of like corsets or vests in this world. I imagine Rapunzel would not discover her cutie mark until she discovers her real lineage, or else she probably would’ve pieced together who she was a long time ago.

Big question: What happens to the glass slipper? A pony cannot wear a glass slipper…right? It would instead be a horseshoe. But it can’t be glass because that would surely shatter. It could be made of diamond or something crazy. Yep, a diamond horseshoe for Cinderella’s little pony feet.
Oddly enough, the Diamond Horseshoe is actually a restaurant at Walt Disney World. It’s at Magic Kingdom Park, but it probably has nothing to do with Cinderella, though.
What would Cinderella’s cutie mark be? She’s super good at chores but she also becomes a princess. Maybe a pumpkin? A carriage? A horseshoe? We can just ignore their feet and make it a glass slipper like in the movie. I bet ponies have fairy godmothers, and all godmothers have horns and wings and super magic.

20 Ponyhontas
This Pocahontas pony’s style is similar to the My Little Ponies that existed when I was a kid in the 90s. I can tell, because the eyes are not as big and the nose is not as small as they are in Friendship Is Magic. It was called My Pretty Pony in the 80s, before I was even born. This franchise has quite a history.
Let me just say pony-Pocahontas would probably fit in with the Disney theme much better than her human counterpart.
The setting is nice though, referencing the wind theme and her song “Colors of the Wind.” I least I think that was what the artist was going for. It’s hard to draw wind, so just draw leaves blowing in the wind? The leaves do convey that, though.

19 Gypsy Pony
Here is a pony that is also more like the older versions of My Little Pony. This art is beautiful though! I can imagine it as a piece of art in someone’s room. I love the astronomy aspects that are styled the same way they are in Tarot cards.
Esmeralda’s jewelry is neat, but I wonder how those bangles stay on her legs? I’ll pretend they are clip-on. I also think her pet goat would now just be a loyal partner.
It turns out that Esmeralda was the first Disney princess to have green eyes, which is neat! That’s kind of special, but she certainly wouldn’t be the first pony to have green eyes, since we’ve got Applejack and Fluttershy. I think Esmeralda is one of the more underrated Disney princesses out there, so props to the artist for making this piece.
18 Fur White As Snow
I’ve always felt that Snow White had the least amount of representation in Disney, she really could use more love. I mean, it’s hard enough to be chased by your jealous stepmother because of your looks!
Clearly, I’m right, because both Snow White and this pony are beautiful. In this fan art, her mane is super gorgeous. The red and white themes give the art a sort of vampiric look. Ponies love apples, so Snow White translates well for My Little Pony in their affinity for the red fruit. The pony also actually has red lips, giving more pop to the art piece.
I love the artist’s description of this piece, “Coat white as snow, lips red as blood and mane black as ebony.”

17 Hawaiian Style!
This gorgeous pony piece is a fusion between Moana and an original character. According to the artist, DiscordTheGE, this was a commission, so the original character may be hers. You can see Moana in the clothes and setting. This pony is obviously using magic to control the sea. Perhaps this Moana uses telekinesis to get the sea to help her?
Her magic looks sort of electric too. If that’s electricity, then this pony should maybe not be messing with the water.
What would her cutie mark be? A sailboat would be a good one! Also, I have to share the artist’s clever pony pun that was in the image description. She lives in “PoNynesia.” I wouldn’t have thought of that gem.
Thank you DiscordTheGE! Thank you.

16 Invited To All Pony Parties
Maleficent in this form definitely looks like a princess meant for My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. I love the soft colors and golden Pegasus wings, this totally looks awesome.
This is a lovely rendition of a pre-scorned Maleficent!
This entire fairytale could translate to My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, but it’s more about friendship than about romance. Maybe an act of friendship is the only way to wake Aurora from her deep sleep?
Also a My Little Pony villain would definitely use their magic to target someone because they were not invited to a party (yes, I am purposefully ignoring the lore of the Maleficent movie). I’m sure this Maleficent could also turn into a dragon, but perhaps more menacing.

15 OlymPony
Pegasus is an actual Pegasus-type in Disney’s Hercules. His name is clearly the epitome of creativity, as well. If the entire Hercules movie was turned “pony”, it would certainly change the relationship of Pegasus’ character with everyone.
Zeus made Pegasus, so the cutie mark makes sense. It’s basically the icon of Olympus, which ties into Pegasus’s purpose and creation.
It would be cool to see the entirety of Greek mythos as ponies. I bet that’s been done. The cutie marks would be so easy and simple based on what type of god they are. Pegasus would then be more like some kind of servant, rather than a pet for Hercules. Would this make them all some type of Pegasus ponies? Maybe not Hades, since he rules the Underworld.

14 Do You Want To Build A Snow-ny?
This style is spot-on for what you see in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Take these ponies and put them in the show and I never would have guessed they were fan-made. The colors for Anna’s mane and tail are very cute and creative.
This artist is amazing at making her ponies look like they were literally lifted off the screen.
How are they both standing on their back legs? I guess it’s just pony magic. I imagine Elsa’s unicorn horn is the source of her ice powers. These ponies are so cute, I really can’t believe they are full grown. They seem a little upset over something, so this might be right before they argue over never spending enough time together.

13 My Little Beast
Beast as a pony actually looks kind of like a goat, since his horns always seemed to suggest it. Maybe he’s a really weird fluffy goat? He even has that chin beard that goats have! Does a goat translate to a beast in Equestria?
I’m sure Beast is most people’s favorite prince in Disney because he actually is a character we get to see develop pretty well.
According to the artist, who did their research on the Disney film, Disney did not know whether to make Beast a villain or not, at the beginning of the movie’s creation. That all makes sense from his complex behavior. The movie teaches us that it’s easy to become a beast anyway, due to the harsh environment. Maybe some people still believe Beast is the real villain, in a way?

12 Experi-Pony 626
According to the artist, this Stitch pony has a unicorn horn and is a Pegasus because he’s indestructible.
Apparently aliens are a subject that has not been yet explored in the My Little Pony canon. To get aliens with My Little Pony, I’m afraid you’ll have to look into the realm of fanfiction, for now. Lilo and Stitch is another Disney movie that would translate well into the My Little Pony universe, though I guess it would center more on friendship than family in the world of Equestria.
Instead of pretending to be a weird dog, do Stitch’s extra legs retract when he pretends to be a weird pony? I think an alien visiting Equestria and pretending to be a pony would make from some sublime satire. I bet there is fanfiction for that, but it should be canon.

11 Little Mermare
Seahorses should, and indeed have to become a thing in Equestria. I don’t mean mer-mares like this picture of pony Ariel. I mean adorable seahorses with the long snouts and curly tails. I guess an issue with mer-mares surrounds the new location of the cutie mark. I guess they can easily just be put on the fish tail hip?
How does a pony swim with both pony legs and a fish tail? Probably not very gracefully.
From what I know, mermaids have not been canon or touched by My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, except in the toy line! There are toys of mermaid versions of Pinky Pie. There is a coloring book of the ponies as mermaids. So why not a show? They need to realize this is 2018, and it’s time for merma-corns!
10 Ponified Anna
The artist really pulled out all the stops to make this pony version of Anna from Frozen. That explains the adorable elated expression on pony Anna’s face. The expression suits her, as her character is the more hyperactive and silly out of the two sisters.
I feel like Anna would fit right into My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. She has that sweet, excited look you see on all the characters. Her good mood and happy demeanor would totally fit. Kikuri-Tan really knows how to make Frozen ponies, this is like the 3rd on our list!
I love the freckles! That’s the cutest part of this fanart and an easily overlooked detail of Anna’s face.
9 King Candy Pony
This pony must love sugar cubes! The artist did an amazing job with the bright and sugar coated color-scheme. The eyebrows are just like King Candy’s from Wreck-it-Ralph. Even the eyelids have color detail to match with the background and his coat. This art takes me to candy kingdom and makes we want lollipops and gumdrops.
A mane doesn’t really work with his hairstyle, though. Or does it?
It’s also a real original idea. He would not be a character I’d dream of drawing a pony version of (if I could draw in the first place). He’s not even that memorable of a villain. Why is that? I thought he was cool but at the same time he doesn’t pare with other villains like Maleficent and the Evil Queen from Snow White.

8 Terracotta Ponies
You can totally spot Mulan, Shang, and Shan-Yu, from left to right. Artist Qemma did the hair perfectly …I mean, manes? They even put Shan-Yu’s receding hairline on his pony, and everything.
Shang’s cutie mark is super vague, while Shan-Yu’s is very specific. I can just imagine a pony going up to him being like, “Whoa, is your mark a flacon carrying a knife? That’s like…super weird but also super cool!” According to the episode, “Call of the Cutie”, the cutie marks appear when ponies discover a unique characteristic that sets themselves apart from others.
Mulan’s cutie mark is perfect since she’s the protector of her family, which is symbolized by the family dragon. It makes sense that Mushu could not wake it up, because Mulan had already fused with it, when crying under its statue.

7 Pony-sel In Distress
With Meg from Hercules as a pony, Rarity will have some to compete for attention. Purple fur to pay homage for her iconic purple dress. Also her cutie mark appears to match the designs of the ancient Greek pottery that is present in the movie.
The expression of this pony is perfect, because Meg wears the same expression pretty constantly in the movie. Her self-confidence is an inspiration. She also has great word choices in the movie like “rippling pectorals” instead of just muscles. I can just hear her voice say that when I type it down.
She also is so loyal that she leveraged herself to Hades for her boyfriend. She endures a betrayal because of that brave action. She’s a very selfless character.

6 Wreck-It-Ponies!
That’s the cutie mark I want, a prop fist!
I love these pony designs because their expressions show their character. Ralph looks like he doesn’t want to be here. He’s big and heavy-looking with his hooves and blocky posture. Vanellope is adorable, small, has the candy in her mane and shows her annoying and cute personality by climbing Ralph’s back.
I heard cutie marks disappear when you no longer know yourself or what makes you special. Would Vanellope not have a cutie mark because she ends up being the Queen of the candy race track? Her mark would probably be a crown, and it would reappear at the end of the movie.
I think their sizes should be a little smaller and bigger. She was like a tiny monkey next to Ralph in the Disney movie.
