Fuser is sort of like a spiritual successor to another Harmonix game, DropMix. It was a card game where players got a pack of cards with songs attached, placed them in a digital deck, and could then create mashups. It was essentially a toys-to-life game which meant it was expensive to get into.

Harmonix seemingly learned from the experience and took the core of DropMix and created Fuser. It’s also a DJ game that involves remixing music, but with more of a hook behind it. Plus, it’s much cheaper. What else is there to learn and are there any tips to divulge? Let’s find out.

10 There Is A Campaign

It’s hard to know what one will get from a Harmonix game. Is it going to be all about music or will there be a story? The answer points to the latter as there is indeed a campaign. The basic premise is that players will be an up and coming DJ trying to break onto the scene through various music festivals. It’s basically a way to create a tutorial for the mechanics, of which there are a lot.

9 Create Your DJ

It should come as no surprise then that players can customize their DJ to their liking. The graphics may not look that great, which might just be on the Switch version, but the options for customization are numerous. One doesn’t have to stay chained to this beginning style either so don’t worry about it right away. DJs can be changed for free whenever from hair styles to clothes. Players can even create multiple DJs.

8 How Multiplayer Works

There are a few options for multiplayer and the core of it is focused on online sessions. Players can go head to against others in what amounts to boss battles. DJs can even group up to create a four player show. This makes handling various switching a lot easier on tracks although not with random people. The tip here then is to play with friends in co-op. Other than that shows can also be watched from the audience. This might be a good way to learn the ropes through peers.

7 Maximizing EXP

The better one does in the campaign the more stars they earn just like in Rock Band. The more more stars one earns the more experience gained. Yes, there is a progression system in the game although it is not a robust RPG by any stretch. Leveling up rewards players with tokens to unlock music tracks and clothes. It’s a good tip to say right off the bat not to blow the beginning cash right away.

6 Create And Export Mixes

Besides the campaign, one can easily gain experience by creating mixes. This can be done in the Freestyle mode. This is a great way to learn the ropes without having to worry about failing from campaign shows.

Mixes can even be uploaded to the Fuser cloud for others to share. Doing so will get players bonus experience. So if the campaign is too much, there are other ways to unlock content.

5 Always Calibrate

If one is playing this game on a home, immovable console, calibrate the game once as is recommended in the beginning setup. However, if one got the Switch version and plan on playing it between handheld mode and docked mode, players should calibrate it every time one switches. Timing is everything in a Fuser so just being a nanosecond off can mean all the difference. Okay, it might not be that precise but the tip here is still sound so always calibrate it on Switch.

4 Create Snapshots

Another thing players can, and should, do in Freestyle mode is create Snapshots. Snapshots are m basically the easier way to create mixes but they can’t be uploaded. This is a good way to sneak more tracks into one’s roster for the campaign mode as a lot of slots are locked. One can do this in the campaign too. It’s basically a way to save and or remember a track setup that sounds good.

3 Pay Attention To Track Specialties

Speaking of setting up tracks for the campaign, it’s important to pay attention to two things. One, diversify the list with at least two music tracks per genre. So include two pop, two R&B, two rock, and so on. It’s also good to be aware of the year they were made. Also be sure to look at the instruments each track uses. Knowing all of these things helps with the next piece.

2 Pay Attention To Fans

Having a diverse set list will make it easier to win over the crowd. Little hearts will appear above one’s board which will be a request from the audience.

Their requests can range all the way from something generic like to play something from a genre or decade to requesting something from a specific track. The more requests fulfilled the better the score will be at the end, which nets players with easy points.

1 No Fail Mode

Thankfully there is a no fail option in the menu. This allows players to go through the campaign without stressing out over their score. Let it be known that Fuser is one tough cookie to crack. There is no shame in having to reduce the difficulty in this way because like real DJs there is a lot to consider. Practice makes perfect but if one doesn’t have the time this is a fair second option for casual music fans.
