Since the release of Fallout 76’s recent Wastelanders update, it seems the general perception regarding the controversial game has started to become more favorable. Not only have fans been celebrating its various changes and fixes on social media, but Fallout 76’s recent Steam release saw it net “mostly positive” reviews with players, which is undeniably a big shift in consensus following the cold reception it received when it dropped on Bethesda.net.
It seems fans who have recently found themselves drawn to the much meatier version of Fallout 76 could have more fun surprises in the near future too, with the game’s devs sharing interesting plans for the game going forward. Taking to Reddit a few days ago to host an AMA, Jeff Gardiner and Ferret Baudoin both answered some pressing questions regarding the future of Fallout 76, including content players could expect down the line.
One of these questions surrounded an extension of the newly added companion system, with user AzarianCouncil asking “Are pets coming soon?” Interestingly, Jeff Gardiner responded, “Now that we have our companions system in the game, we are looking to add pets as well.” This sparked a lot of interest, with fans asking the game’s devs a number of questions surroundings what pets will be available in this supposed future Fallout 76 update and when they’ll be likely to see it.
It’s hard to gauge from Gardiner’s comments exactly when pets will be available, however, it’s great to see that plans are already in place to expand and innovate on the companion systems introduced in Wastelanders. Hopefully, players will be able to journey the wasteland with a partner akin to the series’ iconic sidekick Dogmeat, or perhaps 76 could add robotic pets that offer more firepower in the heat of battle. However, it seems most fans are already eager for one specific Fallout enemy to become their adorable apocalyptic ally, with tamable Deathclaws seeming to be the most sought after sidekick.
Outside of the addition of pets, Fallout 76 seems to be finally picking up a little more steam since the release of Wastelanders. Not only has the game managed to find something of a second wind from the update in terms of player interest, but it also seems more and more players are jumping aboard the game now that several of its biggest issues are being ironed out. Here’s to hoping that the title can live up to the lofty expectations attached to the Fallout brand as it pushes forward into the future.
