Another Galarian form is coming to Pokémon GO to celebrate the release of Sword and Shield’s Isle of Armor DLC.
Pokémon GO’s Unova Throwback Event focused around a lot more than just Unova region-based Pokémon. In fact, Tepig and the gang were pretty much secondary. The headline was the arrival of more Galarian forms of Pokémon in the game. The likes of Meowth and Stunfisk, as well as Galarian Meowth’s alternate evolved form, Perrserker.
Speaking of the Galar region, today’s the day Pokémon Sword and Shield expands via its first DLC pack, Isle of Armor. The expansion will bring with it more than 100 new Pokémon as well as a whole new area of Galar to explore. Plus, as was revealed via a Pokémon Presents event earlier today, Pokémon GO is also getting in on the Isle of Armor celebrations.
It is doing so via the addition of yet another Galarian form of Pokémon. This time it’s Farfetch’d, which will be a far bigger deal for most players of the game. That’s due to the fact for the majority of Pokémon GO’s existence, Farfetch’d has been region-locked to Asia. Its Galarian form, on the other hand, isn’t just available to any and all players, but it is in the world right now.
Asian trainers will be excited for the opportunity to catch a Galarian Farfetch’d, but for players elsewhere, this could be a chance to fill an annoying gap in their Pokédex. Most players who have been a part of Pokémon GO since 2016 will have likely almost completed the Gen I section of their ‘Dex. Aside from legendary birds and Mew, a region-locked Pokémon such as Farfetch’d might be their only gap.
Galarian Farfetch’d wasn’t the only big Pokémon GO announcement made during the presentation. 2020’s unique GO Fest, which is now just a month away, was hyped, and the addition of mega evolutions was also promised. Not much information was shared in regard to mega evolutions, just that Niantic’s game will bring “its own interpretation” to a feature that has been a part of mainstream Pokémon games for a while.
