Superheroes are often portrayed as humans with extraordinary powers. They protect Earth and expect little in return. They have an intense sense of justice, but at the same time realize that saving lives is more important than following the law. Eager comic readers have followed their stories since their creation. It’s common to hear of a grandparent handing down their entire comic book collection to their eager young grandkids.

Comic book heroes have only grown in popularity since Marvel and DC Comics began adapting their characters into live-action heroes. Kids can now watch their favorite heroes on a movie screen while older fans may or may not enjoy seeing a retelling of their favorite tales. Some are pleased by how their favorite heroes are shown on-screen. Others aren’t so happy and create fanart and fanfiction that tells the stories they want to see on screen.

The movie adaptations have only increased in popularity over the past decade. Fans have worked hard to reimagine their favorite characters in several other forms. Artists have reimagined superheroes as babies, college students, and parents. Though most fans play it safe, other artists push their creativity higher by giving anthropomorphized animals as their favorite superheroes.

Our list compiles some of your favorite Marvel and DC heroes as fantasy’s most epic creations: dragons. Dragons have been increasing in popularity, thanks to Game of Thrones, and creators are taking notice. These artists have taken these reptiles and morphed them into enormous beasts.

25 Winter Or Summer Won’t Hold Him Back

The Winter Soldier was once known as Bucky Barnes. He was known as Captain America’s sidekick until his supposed passing. Unbeknownst to his friends and family, Bucky was taken captive and brainwashed into the Winter Soldier. Bucky was trained to become a master martial artist and a master of firearms. His cybernetic arm gives him an advantage on the battlefield compared to other humans. Once a kind young man who loved his country, Bucky now wanted to destroy his former friend, Steve.

Natukisakurada has drawn The Winter Soldier as a ruthless dragon. He displays his anger in his blue eyes. Winter Soldier’s left arm is replaced with a cybernetic implant with a set of sharp claws. This angry dragon looks ready to take down Captain America once and for all.

24 Avengers Assemble

Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, and the Hulk, share similar traits. Not only have they starred in solo movies, but they’re also part of the Avengers Team. Captain America has proven himself to be an inspiring leader. Iron Man is a brilliant inventor who also helps fund the Avengers’ missions. The Hulk is also a genius scientist, while Thor is a god.

They’re powerful on their own, but when they assemble, they can defeat almost any enemy.

Drawstillidie on DeviantArt has reimagined the powerful men as dragons. The fanart only shows their heads, so they may be part of a hydra body. These men all have different skill sets. When banded together, they’re a powerful force, no matter what their form. We wouldn’t dare mess with these Avengers of justice.

23 The Dragon Of Steel

Clark Kent appears to be a timid reporter. His real friends know him as the Man of Steel, Superman. He wields a power set that includes laser eye beams, flight, super strength, and is incredibly difficult to defeat. Superman has remained one of DC Comics’ most famous characters over the past decades. The mighty superhero has appeared in comics, cartoons, tv shows, and multiple movies.

Lyntonlevengood is a well-known artist who reimagines superheroes into amazing dragons. One of his illustrations includes the Man of Steel as a Dragon. Superman is shown here flying confidently in the sky with sunlight shining on him. His wings are red and slightly translucent to appear like a cape, and most of his scales are blue like a uniform. As a human or dragon, Superman remains a breathtaking superhero.

22 The Dark Knight Still Prevails

The Joker has remained one of Batman’s fiercest enemies for decades. He enjoys tormenting the Dark Knight. Batman continues to put him in prison, but the Joker always finds a way out.

The Joker and Batman’s story may seem to get old after awhile, which is why fan artists continuously put the long-time enemies in different situations.

Sandara on Deviantart has transported both men into a fantasy world. Batman is wielding a spear and is ready to take on his greatest enemy. The Joker has been transformed into a grotesque looking Wyrm. Not only does he have a gruesome, yellow-toothed smile but his body is also covered with sharp teeth. A mane of bright green hair slithers down his white-scaled body. We hope that medieval Batman has had enough time to prepare for this fight.

21 A Vision Of Scarlet

Vision and Scarlet Witch have had a romance that has lasted for decades. She didn’t let the fact that he was a robot get in the way of her feelings. Her brother Quicksilver and teammate Hawkeye protested during the Avengers series but, they were not able to stop love from blooming on the battlefield. They married in the comic series, while their love continues on the big screen.

Qorm has shown the pair as dragons enjoying their relationship. Their distinctive color patterns make them stand out. Vision covered in green and yellow with his face in bright red. Scarlet Witch is in a mix of pink and red, similar to her older Avengers uniform. Their love knows no bounds, even as they’re turned into dragons.

20 Dragon Plays With Fire

Danny Rand has had a difficult life. He watched his parents disappear right before his eyes. He was raised in the city of K’un-L’un as a child. After years of rigorous training, Danny earned his title as the Iron Fist and a symbol of a dragon is branded on his chest. After achieving his goal, Danny returns to New York to get revenge for his parents.

Kaliak has portrayed the Iron Fist in his older green and yellow martial arts outfit.

His gi is open, showing off the black dragon on his scales. Danny wears a yellow mask that covers his entire face and only displays his eyes. Of course, his right fist is glowing in a fiery rage and ready to take out any opponent.

19 He Might Really Hurt Ya, Bub

Wolverine is one of Marvel Comics’ most well-known superheroes. With an adamantium skeleton, healing powers, and a fantastic hairstyle, fans have followed his adventures for decades. Wolverine has been part of the X-Men franchise for most of his career even though he has had some solo journeys. He has become not only popular in comics but also in live-action movies.

Bevelframeulon has reimagined Wolverine as an angry dragon. His wings are fully extended, making him appear larger and frightening to his foes. Instead of metal-covered claws extending from the top of his hands, he has three sharp claws. His clawed feet are twice the size than his average shoe size. This fanart shows that an enraged Wolverine is scary in any form.

18 His Arrow Always Finds Its Target

Hawkeye was one of the earliest Avengers. He joined the team at the same time as Scarlet Witch and Vision. His loyalty has remained steadfast towards the group for decades. Clint serves the team with his flawless archer skills and countless trick arrows. When all else fails, he can use Pym Particles to transform into the giant fighter, Goliath.

Imbecamiel has portrayed the archer as an archer, with a tail made out of arrows which is very fitting.

Hawkeye wears different variations of purple. The tail, as mentioned, is spiked with arrows. His wings are covered with beautiful feathers that are reminiscent of Clint’s outfit. Hawkeye’s confidence is displayed in this stunning reimagining of the archer.

17 A Ghost For Vengeance

Ghost Rider is a title passed down to several different humans on Earth. These humans must be willing to sell their souls to various spirits. These spirits will then help guide them to achieve their goals or even enact vengeance on those who have wronged them. Johnny Blade was the first to take on the mantle of the supernatural superhero.

When Ghost Rider appears, he rides into the scene as a fiery, frightening skeleton. He only wears black leather and wields chains to attack his enemies. Dragonfire1000 shows off both of Ghost Rider’s most recognizable traits in this fanart. The Rider has wings covered in flames, a black leather jacket, and is holding chains. Human, dragon, or skeleton, this Ghost Rider is ready to take down evil.

16 A Symbiote Transformation

Venom has acted as a terrifying enemy to Spider-Man for years. We learned that Venom isn’t a single enemy. Others have taken up the mantle and used the name for good instead of evil. Flash Thompson was one of Peter Parker’s most ruthless bullies in high school, but he worshipped Spider-Man. After being severely wounded in the Iraq War, he chose to bind himself to the Venom Symbiote, becoming Agent Venom. Natalie26 has displayed Venom as a terrifying dragon.

Venom’s body has been transformed into dangerous curves and a spiked tail. His face resembles Venom the most with a long tongue and frightening teeth. While this may be a good or bad Venom Dragon, he’s ready to take on any hero or enemy.

15 Thor Has A New Reason To Be Worried

Loki has long appeared in the Marvel Comic series. He is not only Thor’s adopted brother but also enjoys fighting his brother’s Avenger friends. Loki wanted to rule over Earth and prove all of his enemies wrong. After his appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his popularity has only increased. Fans loved Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of the underdog and anti-hero.

Though Thor is often seen as the most powerful brother, Loki is brilliant and wields incredible magic. FurAffinity’s Surrial shows the full force of Loki’s power as a dragon. He appears so angry that he is glowing with surreal energy. His body is covered in green and gold, making him one majestic creature. Even Dragon Loki might make the mighty Thor slightly cautious in a battle.

14 Ready To Take On The Night

Batman has gone through several Boy Wonder sidekicks. Dick Grayson has moved on from being Robin to Nightwing. He has become a popular character on his own without the support of Batman. Nightwing has appeared in cartoons, comics, and live-action movies. He is swift in battle and, like his former partner, fights under the moonlight.

Orallis has reimagined Nightwing as a sleek dragon.

He is covered in black scales with a blue crest on his chest. Nightwing wears a black mask over his eyes to protect his identity, though he would be easy to spot without it. This dragon also wears a few harnesses with weapons to aid his fight to protect Gotham City. We’re sure the city stays safe under Nightwing’s watchful eye.

13 The Merc With A Mouth

Deadpool is Marvel’s most sarcastic, wise-cracking jokester who also works as a mercenary-for-hire. He is a talented athlete and has an accelerated healing factor, which is necessary for all of the enemies he meets on the job. Under his mask, he is horribly scarred, but he always keeps a positive attitude, which he displayed by his fourth-wall-breaking banter.

Deadpool’s appearance may frighten some, and this reimagining just might cement that. The dragon is bright red and black, just like his human version. Dragon Deadpool has small black accents on his wings and scales that make him stand out from the rest. If you didn’t notice his fast-talking humor, you’d spot his sleek look right away.

12 Weird In Any Form

The Hulk was once a timid scientist named Bruce Banner. He risks his life to save a teenager, which results in his body absorbing a massive amount of gamma radiation. When he becomes angry, Bruce transforms into The Hulk. He struggled to control his beastly nature for years but finally overcame the monster inside him. The Hulk is ready to help the Avengers at any time with his brute strength and high defense.

Acayth has created an illustration that shows why the Avengers’ enemies should run away. The Hulk in his normal form is frightening, but as a Dragon he is terrifying. His teeth and the scales on his back are razor sharp. The Hulk is an incredible asset to any team in any form.

11 The Toughest Spider Of Them All

Natasha Romanova, or the Black Widow, is one of the world’s best spies. She doesn’t have super strength or flight, but she is a world-class athlete and a master of several martial arts. Natasha has been part of the Avengers team for decades. Though she was raised as a spy with a stone heart, she still cares deeply for those she considers friends and family.

Midnightflights has created a stunning reimagination of the super spy using Copic Sketch Markers. The Black Widow Dragon wears Natasha’s classic combo of black and red. On Black Widows’ front legs are bracelets that act similarly to firearms. She also wears the human Black Widow’s belt around her neck like a necklace. The tip of her tail wields a dangerous looking blade. This Black Widow appears as dangerous as her human form.

10 Still A Tragic Hero

Bruce Wayne is a rich businessman in Gotham City. He is one of DC Comics’ darkest superheroes who only appears at night. Bruce remembers the passing of his parents and wants to make sure that no other child suffers the same fate. Since that tragic day, he has trained hard and built up an arsenal to take down Gotham City’s most horrible foes as Batman.

Lyntonlevengood reimagined the Dark Knight into a Dark Dragon.

He sits upon his bat cave under the moonlight, watching out for any dangers. Though he doesn’t have a utility belt, we’re not sure he needs it. As a dragon or human, Bat Dragon is a tragic hero who appears at night to help innocent civilians.

9 The Most Patriotic Dragon

Captain America is one of the most patriotic superheroes, besides the U.S. Agent and Iron Patriot. In his initial appearance, we learn that Steve Rogers was willing to undergo experimentation to become a Super Soldier. He wants to protect the country he loves at all costs. After years of being trapped in an iceberg, he is defrosted and must learn to cope with modern times. Steve rises to become one of the important members of the Avengers team.

Ghostlightningdragon on DeviantArt portrays Steve in a tactical uniform similar to the Avengers movies. His clothing is covered in red, white, and blue to show off his love for the United States of America. The base of his body is brown and white to resemble America’s national bird, the bald eagle. As a dragon or human, Captain America is willing to protect his country at all costs.

8 The Tiniest Wielder Of The Hammer

Thor is the Asgardian God of Thunder, but you may recognize him for wielding the Mjolnir, an enchanted hammer. With the power of the hammer, he can fly, control the weather, has superhuman strength, and more. Thor is almost invincible in battle, which makes him an important member of the Avengers team.

Though Thor often has to fight his brother, Loki, he still finds time to save the Earth.

Imbecamiel has decided to downplay Thor’s strength by reimagining him as a baby Dragon. He still wears his winged helmet but replaces his red cape with red wings. His tiny claws can’t wield the mighty Mjolnir, so it’s attached to the tip of his tail. We’re sure he grows up to be as powerful as his human form.

7 Not Just Wolverine’s Clone

X-23 was born in a laboratory and was intended to be a clone of Wolverine. Her creators wanted her to be under their control. Unfortunately for them, her mother and a mutant geneticist, Dr. Sarah Kinney, didn’t want her to be a cold-blooded destroyer. X-23, or Laura Kinney, escaped her prison and now tries to cope with her intended purpose and freedom.

Sylo has drawn X-23 in one of her first all-leather, X-Men outfits. Instead of black hair, she has white hair that matches her broad wings. Both of X-23’s wings have claws at the tips, which makes them both useful in a fight or in flight. She has both of her hand claws extended, as well as her feet claw. X-23 is ready to take on any enemy of her new friends.

6 A Strange Transformation

Doctor Strange is one of the most mystical superheroes of the Marvel Universe. He became a student under the Sorcerer Supreme, which granted him magical powers along with mastery in martial arts.

The good Doctor is busy living his own life but is always available when the Avengers need an extra hand.

DirtymindSpaceKeet shows Doctor Strange on one of his mystical adventures. This version of Doctor Strange doesn’t wear any extra accessories, but his body is covered in red and gold like his human version. He has used a portal to transport himself into another realm. Doctor Strange noticed his area is covered in snow, but the weather doesn’t affect his scaled body one bit. He stands tall and determined among the leafless trees.
