The Game of Thrones reps who showed up to San Diego Comic-Con simply weren’t ready to entertain fan questions, and it was probably for the best.

The final season of the world-popular show culminated in vexing fashion as the outcome was not what fans expected. Viewers were mostly upset about having to watch Jon Snow get banished to the Night’s Watch yet again while Bran Stark got to be King of the Seven Kingdoms.

Actors Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister) and Conleth Hill (Varys) were part of the panel that spoke at SDCC last week, and they both shared some strong opinions. Coster-Waldau, as you would expect, was very much against the famous fan petition asking for season 8 to be rewritten.

The petition is still gathering pace despite being over two months old and, at the time of writing, had been signed by 1,692,254 people.

“It was surprising, the level, the absurdity of the online petition,” Coster-Waldau declared (via IGN). “But every season we had huge controversies, from Ned Stark being killed, it’s like, ‘I’m never gonna watch that piece of s**t show again,’ to the Red Wedding… every season. The end… it’s gonna piss you off no matter what, because it’s the end. But at the end of the day, it’s absolutely fine. If you hated the ending, if you love it, that’s great, just don’t call people names.”

Hill, meanwhile, joked that he was the one who started the petition and doesn’t regret it. He would go on to reveal his disappointment at not making it to the very end of the series.

“I was absolutely gutted to get so close and not make the end,” he noted. “For the record, I love all my 10 years on Game of Thrones… it was a life-changing experience, and I met wonderful people on-screen and off. The last series was about the futility of conflict and the consequences of war, and if you take one thing from the show, take that.”

The panel found itself on the end of several boos from the fans in attendance, who unfortunately did not get a chance to pose questions, as moderator James Hibberd cut things short with claims that they ran out of time.

At least they were brave enough to show up, though, given that showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss canceled their appearance to avoid further negativity.
