In the United States, 2020 is undoubtedly one of the most contentious election years in recent history. Gamers, who account for one the largest voting blocks in America with more than 130 million potential voters, will be decisive in choosing the next president this November. In order to support voter registration, Gamers.Vote, a non-partisan, non-profit organization, has partnered with ReadyUp, to reach out to gamers of voting age and encourage them to exercise their rights.

According to Christie St. Martin, CEO of Gamers.Vote, the organization hopes to unify the gaming community by hosting interactive events that enable gamers to voice their opinions and register to vote. The organization, which views itself simply as pro-democracy, is concerned that many 20 to 40 years old remain indifferent when it comes to casting their ballot.

Steven Lipscomb, co-founder/board and chair for Gamers.Vote, decided that he needed to be proactive in getting young people to vote after speaking to his 15-year-old son, an active gamer. In 2018, he started the organization after realizing than less than 50% of young people actually vote. In fact, voter turnout among 18 to 29 year-olds is the lowest of any population group, according to the United States Elections Project.

ReadyUp, an interactive event platform that allows users to locate relevant events through filters and search personalization, enables gamers to find their favorite game, genre, team, platform, tournament organizer, competition level, location, and language. By partnering with ReadyUp, Gamers.Vote will provide an interactive platform that promotes events and calls to action among gamers.

On Gamers.Vote, users simply need to confirm that they are a US citizen by providing a driver’s license number, a state identification number, or the last four digits of their social security number. Although the registration form requires users to state which party they intend to vote for, it is non-partisan since all registered parties are listed. Once registered, any qualified voter can request a mail-in or absentee ballot if they prefer not to vote in person.
