On Sunday, April 26, ScrimToWin hosted a 12-hour charity stream in collaboration with Streamlabs under the tag #GamersVsCovid. The tournament primarily featured Fortnite and was in support of Direct Relief’s Covid-19 Fund for Community Health. Organizers of the event encouraged any and every volunteer to enter their tournaments and offer donations of any amount over $1 to the nonprofit. Tournaments were hosted by ZexRow and Reverse2k from Team SoloMid, YouTube celebrity Michelle Phan, former NBA pro Nate Robinson, and various other beloved content creators from around the web.
The esports tournament platform ScrimToWin hosted the event by organizing it into fluid, bracket-style tournaments. Contestants were eligible to win prizes thanks to collaboration with Logitech G and Razor. Prizes ranged from a Logitech G Pro Wireless Mouse, Razor Raptor 27 Gaming Monitor, and the first-place prize was a Razor Blade 15 Gaming Laptop.
The event began at 8:00 a.m. PST, featuring different content creators each hour for the 12 hour duration. Although the tournament has concluded, the donations page is still open for anyone who wants to contribute toward the $50,000 goal. Streamlabs was able to raise $32,222.40 for Direct Relief’s Covid Response as of writing this, so any additional help would likely be appreciated.
Direct Relief is a humanitarian aid organization that aims to improve the lives and health of those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. They collaborate with other nonprofits and businesses in the United States and 80 other countries to provide much-needed equipment and critical care medications to health professionals. All proceeds from #GamersVsCovid go to Direct Relief’s Covid-19 Fund for Community Health, which has provided millions of personal protective equipment (PPE) units to healthcare workers since January.
Though the first #GamersVsCovid tournament has concluded, there may be more to come. Anyone interested in joining future tournaments in the name of coronavirus relief should follow the #GamersVsCovid tag on Twitter, or donate directly to Direct Relief, or the Covid-19 relief charity of your choice. You can also donate via ScrimToWin through their Covid-19 relief page.
