According to Destructoid, everyone’s favorite speedrunning event, Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ), will be postponed due to COVID-19. However, the organizers have put together a new show in order to help in the fight against the pandemic.

As we wait for SGDQ’s new start date, which has been pushed from June 21 to August 16, the brand new event, Corona Relief Done Quick, will be happening from April 17 to 19. This new, online-only event will help to fight against COVID-19.

The new event will occur online, and will be using speedruns to take on COVID-19. The event will be donating all proceeds to Direct Relief. Direct Relief provides assistance to health workers and authorities in times like this.

The event truly couldn’t come at a more perfect time. Many of us are all stuck in our houses working from home helping to curb the spread of COVID-19. This leads to a lot of boredom, so having a Twitch stream full of fantastic speedruns to watch will surely be great for fans to get into. Whoever said that sitting around and playing (or watching) video games couldn’t help anyone?

As so many gaming events are getting canceled left and right, it’s nice to see a new one popping up. GDQ is a perfect event to take things to an online medium, and with so many people sitting at home, there is a whole new audience for the charitable event. IGN is also jumping into the online event pool to replace E3 this year, so it is clear that not all content is gone for gamers looking to see what will come this year with the launch of new consoles.

It’s great to see GDQ take action against COVID-19. Due to the loss of jobs for many, it remains to be seen if the donation total will reach the heights that GDQ and their normally scheduled events are used to. Either way, let’s hope that Corona Relief Done Quick provides entertainment and helps to change the world at the same time.

Corona Relief Done Quick will begin on April 17th.
