Games Workshop has showcased the new soundtrack for the upcoming animated series, Angels of Death. Long time collaborator and Warhammer fan Jonathan Hartman has returned to compose the score. The result sends shivers down your spine, and if the music is anything to go by, we are in for a treat when the show finally hits our screens.

Some of us may remember a time when every GW store played Grindcore Metal. It wasn’t just because the store managers and much of their fan base was listening to heavy metal - GW were actively promoting an album by UK band Bolt Thrower. In 1989 GW provided the cover artwork for their Realm of Chaos album. The album was obviously influenced by the band’s love for the games and it featured songs such as “Plague Bearer” and “World Eater." The entire Realm of Chaos album has war as it’s heart and soul, and for many gamers, it made the perfect companion for tabletop battle.

Hartman first worked with an array of talented musicians on the Warhammer Ident in 2019. This 20-second clip will be seen preceding all Warhammer shows, movies, and related content. It will help viewers get a sense of the rich universes that GW has while unifying the different brands under a single umbrella. You can check out the ident above.

The album features 31 tracks of music that will appear in the show. Soundtrack aficionados will instantly recognize the importance that sound plays in film and television. If anything sounds even slightly off, then the ability to suspend your belief is ruined, and so is your enjoyment of the show. The same applies to music. Directors have long known the power of song, and how it can alter our perception of a work. How immersed we are in a show will often be augmented by carefully composed background music and this is where Hartman really shows his chops.

We’re waiting with bated breath for the Angels of Death to air, and we can’t wait to use the soundtrack to set the mood in our upcoming battles. It is available now from iTunes or the Black Library App.
