This year Sonic is turning 20, and he’s celebrating by traveling through time and teaming up with his past self to battle Robotnik/Eggman to save the world. A true party animal.
Sega has released a new trailer giving gamers a peek at what’s to come when Sonic Generations launches later this year.
For the uninitiated Sonic Generations features two Sonics from two different eras of the hedgehog’s career. Classic Sonic from the 2D, side-scrolling, Genesis days and Modern Sonic from the Sonic Adventure titles. Each Sonic will feature the respective style and gameplay from that time and the trailer from E3 gave gamers a first hand look at how it will all go down this holiday season.
Sega also released a sneak peek for Xbox 360 and PS3 which received high praise during our demo impressions and made us very excited to get our hands on the final product. This newest trailer for Sonic Generations shows us more levels and gameplay of the two Sonics.
Check the trailer below:
While we got a glimpse of one possible boss at the end – in the form of a robot version of Eggman – we didn’t get to see the Metal Sonic which was unveiled in screenshots a while back. It did show off a bit of the Chemical Plant Zone, which was unearthed by hackers who cracked the code of the demo. Chemical Plant Zone has to be one of the coolest levels in a Sonic game and playing as the Modern Sonic in this stage will literally give gamers a new perspective on this classic level.
Speaking of classic, Classic and Modern Tails make their cameo at the end there, raising the question as to what role Sonic’s trusty sidekick will play in the game. Will a friend be able to pick up a controller to assist Sonic in some co-op? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Sonic Generations will be available this holiday for Xbox 360, PS3 and 3DS.
