In what can only be described as a hilarious turn of events, GameStop UK has announced that those who trade in Battlefield 3 will be able to purchase Modern Warfare 3 for only .99 pounds. There are of course some restrictions that apply.

Gamers must purchase Battlefield 3 before midnight on October 27th, 2011 and trade in the title before November 18th, 2011. Modern Warfare 3 must also be purchased before November 7th, 2011. Fullfilling these actions will result in GameStop UK refunding the interested parties the price of Modern Warfare 3, minus a 99p charge.

While most forum goers have already claimed their side in the Battlefield 3 vs Modern Warfare 3 debate or - barring financial limitations - have chosen the alternate (and more sensible) route and intend to pick up both titles, there are still many conflicted gamers out there that will only be able to afford one of the two games. This deal is actually great news for those who are having a hard time choosing between the two. In essence, gamers can try out Battlefield 3 for free, and if they don’t like it they can return it for Modern Warfare 3.

One section of the deal that really stands out is found in the legal section:

EA has spent quite a lot of energy trash talking Modern Warfare 3, so it will be interested to see how many people actually follow through on this deal. Battlefield 3 is sure to be a great game when it launches, but the gameplay is so radically different from the Call of Duty franchise that Battlefield 3 might not even appeal to the latter crowd.

“All copies of Battlefield 3 returned to GameStop as part of the Trade-In Offer must:

  • be in full working condition; include the original disk and all original packaging and instruction booklets and any other documentation sold with the game; and not be damaged or in any way defaced (including without limitation the disk, the packaging and any instruction booklet or other documentation sold with the game);”

Battlefield 3 launches October 25th, 2011 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC

Modern Warfare 3 launches November 8th, 2011 for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii and DS.

Note: This deal only applies to 360 and PS3 versions of both games.
