One of the new rival trainers in the Isle of Armor expansion for Pokémon Sword & Shield has a bizarre secret, as she apparently tried to use Photoshop to make herself look curvier on her League Card.
The Isle of Armor added a new rival trainer that the player would encounter throughout their journey. The rival is different depending on the game. Pokémon Shield players would encounter a Psychic-type trainer named Avery, while Pokémon Sword players fought a Poison-type trainer named Klara. You battle your rival at different points throughout the expansion, but the short length of the Isle of Armor means that you don’t have much time to get attached to them.
Once the player defeats Klara, they will earn her first League Card. A Twitter user named TAHK0 pointed out something strange about Klara’s League Card, as there is evidence that she used photo-editing software to make herself look curvier.
This is a common trick used by people who want to make themselves look skinnier, or to make parts of their body seem rounder than they actually are. Celebrities sometimes pull this trick on social media and magazine photographers use it all of the time. Nowadays, people can spot them a mile away, as you can see how the background curves in an unnatural direction. We know that Klara has done this because of how her Galarian Slowbro is bending around her.
The Pokémon series has included a number of subtle references to adult content in the past, like the trainer couple who use an Onix & Cloyster on their team, or the creepy old guy staring into the window of Erika’s gym. The series has used fewer of these over time, but they can still be found by fans who look hard enough. The recent entries in the Pokémon series have included references to social media and smartphones, and Klara trying to make her bust look bigger is a very subtle joke that most fans would miss unless they’re savvy about photo-editing and why people do it.
