In case you didn’t know, Satisfactory has an option to replace its creepy spiders with cats as part of an “Arachnophobia Mode.” And if you’re imagining said cats to be cute little cuddlefluffs that are fully-animated and blend as seamlessly into the game’s virtual world as possible, you’re absolutely wrong.
If you have a gander at this video, you’ll notice that instead these cats are just 2D images of cats blown up to vaguely cover the area in space that the spider would otherwise have taken up. They kind of just slide awkwardly along the ground in hot pursuit of you, still emitting vaguely spidery noises as they do so.
It’s utterly delightful.
While some spider-featuring games force players to get creative (like this one mod for Skyrim dubbed “Insects Begone” which replaces the game’s creepy crawlies with bears and skeevers), it’s great to see game devs like these being one step ahead. We’re sure that prospective Satisfactory players who happen to be arachnophobes too would far rather be subjected to the still-weirdly-uncomfortable experience of being chased down by swarms of glitchy oversized cat faces than those spindly arachnoid crawly things.
Not sure what to suggest for the subpopulation of those players who also happen to be ailurophobic, though.
