The developers of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition went the extra mile when it came to giving speech to all of the characters, as a fan has discovered that unreachable NPCs still have dialogue.
It’s common for video game developers to include characters as background filler and make it impossible for players to reach them. This means that the player normally cannot interact with them, unless they use cheat devices in order to break the boundaries of the level in order to reach areas that they shouldn’t be allowed to go.
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition has some hidden text that is difficult to find in the Frontier Village. A Redditor named CGSasuke1 uploaded a video to the Xenoblade Chronicles Reddit page that showed him carefully reaching an area that players are normally unable to visit. There is a tower with several small platforms and huts in the village, and he was able to get on one with a Nopon Villager by carefully sliding off the nearby roofs. It turns out that the Nopon has dialogue, referring to his location.
It’s possible that the developers included this text as an easter egg, as they knew people would attempt to land on this platform, either through careful jumping or through glitching. It’s not an easy task, however, and many players would likely give up before reaching the villager.
Developers will sometimes give unreachable NPCs text as a means of preventing glitches. There is always a chance that the player could glitch their way through the boundaries of the stage by accident, and talking to a character who has no text might cause the game to crash. There are some developers who have fun with this idea and plant secret dialogue that is never meant to be seen by players in these characters, which may have been the case with the Nopon Villager in Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.
