In-game music can often times add to the experience of a game. It can even make the game a better title and bring more emotion. Wario World chose to go a different route in terms of in-game music. More specifically very obnoxious menu music.

Wario is known as one of the most boisterous characters in the Mario series. He punches, farts, and eats his way through his adversaries. As the complete opposite of Mario, he is always on a quest to get rich quick.

Everyone knows the Mario theme music, and even the often relaxing menu music. What many people choose to forget is Wario World’s pause menu tune. When any player pauses the game, they will be greeted with an irritating sound jingle made by Wario himself. This leads players to spend as little time as they can paused.

An interesting feature in this is if a player manages to remain paused for almost an hour, 50 minutes and 39 seconds to be exact, Wario will apologize for the annoying music. As haunting as the music might be, the sad “sorry” that he says is just as strange.

Some fans speculate that it might just be a loop, and placed in at that specific time. When taken straight from the game, however, it makes sense for him to apologize after an hour of his terrible music making. This also leads to the knowledge that Wario is self-aware about how irritating he might be.

That said, something so small such as a single word apology for how much a player has to suffer through is interesting. What made developer Treasure do this and why make the player wait? No one really knows the answer to that except that it was the most Wario thing to do.

Wario World is filled with music like this, and oddly terrifying bosses. Many fans mentioned that the bosses mixed with the annoying music use to leave them with nightmares as a kid. Even though it was a commercial success, many critics and fans wished for a longer experience. Regardless of how annoying it might be.
