The battle of Blue Shell and the lasagna will continue on into a new era of warfare, as a new entry in the Garfield Kart series has been revealed - Garfield Kart: Furious Racing.

The original Garfield Kart was released for Android devices, the Nintendo 3DS and on Steam in 2013, where it received almost universally negative reviews. There have been plenty of Kart racing games released over the years that have featured popular animated characters, but Garfield Kart managed to reach memetic levels of awfulness. The fact that it was released on a system with the excellent Mario Kart 7 (which was also the best-selling game on the Nintendo 3DS) meant that Garfield Kart was doomed to an existence of mockery…

Or was it? Garfield Kart has an incredibly positive response rate in its Steam reviews… but that’s only because they are all being done sarcastically. Garfield Kart has over six thousand Steam reviews and most of them are a single sentence full of praise for the game and how the loving embrace of Garfield changed their life.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is currently the best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch, but it’s hardly the only game in town, as Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled was also very well-received and is available on multiple systems. Garfield Kart: Furious Racing is entering a tough market and it has to escape from the shadow of its esteemed predecessor. Can Garfield knock Crash Bandicoot off the road and steal the first place spot away from Mario? No, probably not. But it will at least be fun to see it try.

Garfield Kart: Furious Racing will be released for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 5, 2019.
